Photo Prices For Internet

Tue Jun 21, 2005 4:20 am

Hi All,

I've been recently contacted by a company to sell them two of my photos. So far so good, no problems at all, I've consulted the stock photo price link that was given here on some other topic and we have reached an agreement on the fee.

The material they will publish and for what I have sold the photos is a paper newsletter and now they also want to publish some of the contents on their website and are asking me how much will I charge for that usage. The question is that I don't have the faintest idea of how much should I charge, if anything. My initial idea was to let them use it for free (as they already paid the paper edition) if they only reproduce the newsletter on a PDF. To me that is the same material, so no extra fee should be charged. But if they want to make something different, like have a webpage with the photos and text, custom made for the internet, how can I measure the prices, and should I or shouldn't I charge anything else ?

I really need some help here  Smile

Thank you all in anticipation

Hello Francisco,

It all depends a bit.
If you have the paper newsletter deal settled already for a reasonable price, you could go down a bit with the website use. It's all about maintaining clients, so you wouldn't want to p**s them off with a high quote, would you?

In general, it depends what website they use it for, and how large. I guess it's comercially, so if they aren't going to use your photo in 1024 width and on several pages, a fee between $50 and $150 would be quite reasonable in my opinion.

Still, I don't know what exactly the deal is about, so just use your common sense! Good luck!

cheers,
Florian

Florian,

Thanks for your help.

You are absolutely right in everything you said, my difficulty was also related to those points you've raised. What is reasonable for a normal usage, and for a usage in more than one type of media. Well anyway, i decided to charge the extra usage (as it is on their homepage and all) at $100 per photo. Sounds reasonable to me. Hope it sounds aswell to them.
