New Max Upload Queue Stats?

Wed Jun 22, 2005 7:41 am

hey screeners/guys,
first of all i wanna say i like the idea of limiting the number of uploads at a time (even though im in the 5max cat) and i was just wondering if you have seen a decrease in the queue, i figure you are doing it to limit people just throwing up bad quality pics and to speed things up a bit.

Looks like so far there is still an astronomical amount of photos in the queue and hopefully soon this will decrease so the screeners can process photos faster.

Still quite a few photos in the queue, but the backlog has gone down by about 4,000 photos is a few days, which equals about two days worth of screening effort.

In other words the wait time is now 2 days shorter than it was this time last week.

My guess is you will see the queue stabilize around 10,000 photos, or about 5 days wait time.

Clickhappy,

Here's something I don't understand. This is not a jab at the screeners, but if the queue is relatively stable then in theory the queue could be radically shortened. There are about the same number of photos being uploaded as there are being screened when the queue remains at a constant wait time. So, if all the photos could be attacked and the queue reduced to almost nothing, screening could resume at the original rate, and the wait time would stay short, with the same amount of effort as before.

Just a thought, please explain if I am not seeing things correctly.

Best regards,

Screeners are working very hard to maintain stability. Some are working for many hours each and every day. To "radically shorten" the queue requires radical additional resources. That's just not feasible.

We have some new screeners who we've started training, and they'll be helping out really soon. In the meantime the new queue system and good old-fashioned hard work by the screeners is steadily bringing the queue length down.

And in a addition to this, a radically shortened queue will encourage photographers to upload more pictures, as the queue is so short. There needs to be a balance between uploads and screening, but there is a also connection between the queue length and the number of new uploads.

Thanks Tamsin and Robert for the responses. I do understand the many hours of hard work screeners put in and I'm grateful for the work they do.

Out of curiosity, who are the new screeners? Also, will we be aware of when the new screeners are starting, so that we can keep an extra eye out for any mistakes that might be made.

How many have left? I noticed that Sam Chui no longer appears to be a screener....
