Holy Dust!

Thu Jun 30, 2005 7:03 am

Just realized how dusty a sensor can get.
Here is proof:

Is it just my camera, or does anyone have it this bad?

Wow, on a 20D as well.....

I only use a blower, it seems to do nothing at all.

Nasty stuff

Yep been there and have the T-shirt as well.

Clean the sensor RG, the only way to get rid of the little critters.

Take care

How do you get a picture to look like that so you can see the dust spots?

Thanks,

I've heard people having great success with ShopVac and other powerful vacuums in getting dust off the sensor on DSLRs...haven't tried it yet myself.

I had dust in my 350D,took it to the 'best' camera store in town to have it cleaned, anyways they made it worse!
I then took it elsewhere and asked if they cleaned sensors? I was told that I should buy a blower and try that,I did,and it worked great.

Try this,
its cheap and easy and very portable in the field and it works! By removing the dust unlike blowers which simply move the dust around to be attracted back to the sensor the next time its charged.

Is it possible to reduce the amount of dust that push-pull zooms will intake? I was looking at reviews for the 100-400 not too long ago and one of the users found a way to minimize dust.

Set you apperture to f22 and shoot a clear part of the sky, or a magnolia poainted wall so someone told me, but I use the sky, Bring it into PS and equalize and they will all show up.
I used the stuff from copperhill and found it very good. I now carry out a sensor check/clean when going out to the airport.

Take care
