Help With Another Photo Request.

Tue Jul 05, 2005 10:40 pm

Guys,

I just got this email, wondering if it's serious, and if it is, I don't want to charge too little. Anyway, here it goes.

Dear Mr Kroychik,

I am working for Delius Producing Berlin as a picture researcher. Delius
Producing is a company which works on book projects for publishers mostly based in Germany.

Right now we are working on a concept for two books with the title "Airline
Design" and "Luxury Airline Design". In this two books we want to present a
historical overview of the (non-military) airline design. Our historical range
is starting in the 1950s and it is going into achievments from the presence. We
want to feature the whole world of design conecting to the airlines and the
airplanes but as well the airports, stewardesses, the lounges, the corporate
design etc.

We would like to use the following photo in our book "Luxury Airline Design":
786442

Please let me know if you have this image in high-quality resolution and if you
would like to submitt it for our book project. I hope you can get back to me
soon because we have a short deadline for this book.

Please contact me if your need any more information.
I am looking forward to hear from you!

Best Regards

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Should I also get a copy of the book? Any help would be appreciated; again, I don't want to give anyone a freebie and want to charge the proper amount of money. Here's the photo they want:

Alex,
After reading that line it makes me believe they want it gratis. While your's is a nice photo, I imagine there are a few others similar enough that they may run to if you go to high on your pricing. I would either call them, or ask them to call you so you can find out the details on what size they want the image, and how many will be printed, etc., etc.

Good luck with it.

Hi Alex,

always ask for a copy if your work is published somewhere, at least I do it that way  Smile

As Jeff said, it sounds like they want it for free...

Ask them what they "want" to pay... I did it last time with a request, turned out as a $100 earning...

Good luck

Cheers from Hamburg

I just got an offer of 35 Euro for the phot, because that's what their finances allow. Should I take it? I personally think it's a bit low.

And I should also probably take a copy of the book as well.

It might seem a bit low, but think about it this way. You'll either tell them no, and then they'll get somebody else's picture who might be willing to sell it for 35 Euros, and you don't get anything. Or you tell them you want let's say 50 Euros or whatever and then maybe they'll say ok we'll give you 50 Euros or they'll get somebody else's instead again. To be on the safe side you should go for the 35 Euros, but if you feel that's too low you might want to play your odds. Maybe you'll come out with 50 Euros or you might just get nothing instead. But that's just me, I don't really know anything about selling photos since mine aren't close to good enough yet.

Cheers,
Sebastian

I am sure there are tons of wingviews like this in the database. Like said before, it isn't really unique, so either take the 35 Euros + politely ask for a copy of the book or say no and take nothing. Your choice. I for sure know which I'd go for.

Better making a small amount of money than no amount of money, right?

cheers,
