Which One Is Better If Any?

Tue Jul 05, 2005 11:51 pm

Hi all, I really love A330's and I have loved a selection of shots of this Etihad A330 touching down at LHR. At first the first shot only got rejected for bad level so I have done my best to level it.

I would like to know which one would be better to upload if any, or which has the better chance. Thanks.

Hi Dom,

I like the bottom one better for sure. The weather wasn't really in your favor that day, but the shot still came out nicely though. I really like that shot, since the A330 is my favorite plane as well.

Cheers,

Hi, Dom,

I think the crop may become a potential problem - the right wing chopped off for both photos. But I'm not quite sure. And the second one looks a little oversharpened.

That's true, but I'm not sure how much of a problem that chopped off right wing will be with the screeners. About the oversharpening. There are some jaggies on the top of the fuselage which you might want to get rid of.

Hello there Dom.

If you have the quality in the original I think it may be an idea to crop the plane more closely - for example, in the second shot, you could centre the plane body and so crop the right wing (as we see it) too. My feeling is that this would make for a nicer motive for the crop, and balances the photo a bit more. Sorry I can't host anything, but in my mind I have the left hand crop leaving the 'Ahead' of that sign, and an equal amount of space to balance that on the right, closer to the edge of the port engine nacelle.

Assuming that quality is not an issue doing this, I reckon this would avoid the problem of the crop impacting on the motive, mentioned above. The focus would then be close in on the main body and the fact that the end of the port wing would be out of shot won't be an issue, in my opinion.

For me, that would work better with the second image, particularly as I like that better because I enjoy seeing that 'tiptoe' effect when the wheels are just touching down.

Take it easy.

I prefer the second.

But, I'd crop it a lot closer, and fill the picture with the plane but include both engines. This would have the advantage of removing most of the crap in the foreground as well as the QF and SA tails in the background. I think the final picture would be more dramatic.

Dom,

I think the crop is better on this example, but I think the contrast was better on the original you showed us. This one looks slightly 'misty' to me and, as a result, I would have to say the quality does not look as good.

For what it's worth, I still think the second photo is the better one. Give that a go too - or have you already done so?

No all I did was put it in the queue so you could see. Shall I put the second one above in the queue? Eg. the the second one in the first post?
