Hi there,

Yep its pritty simple..

If you start off from the airport hotel, the pub.. Turn right under the approach lights of 24R, keep going untill you reach a T-Junction.. (esso garage on the corner) turn right untill you see "Moss Lane" go down there, past the ATP Airframe and theres a white cottage, park up before that, then walk down the private bridleway right to the end, untill you reach the airport fence, walk along the fence untill you see a mound.. usually there are people about..

If you are looking to go one weekend, ill gladly meet up with you and show you round the other side.

The other way round to there is park up at the Moat House Hotel (under the tunnels past the viewing park entrance) and theres a bridge to the left of the hotel, walk up the small hill, and theres another bridleway, walk up this, a few steep hills, once your at the top, you cannot miss it.

Hope this helps,

Lew.

Quoting www.ringwayreports.com (Reply 1):

There are a 'mounds' close to Runway 24L which offer excellent views of aircraft beginning their take-off run on the new runway (24L). Aircraft can be photographed easily and viewing is very good from the area.

** Please note this is not an official area and RingwayReports cannot be held responsible for the actions of any visitors to this vantage point. RingwayReports recommends the official Aviation Viewing Park for spectators visiting Manchester Airport for the sole reason of viewing aircraft.

By Road

Take the road leading up to the Airport Pub on the right, and turn right. Or the road out of the airport and take your 3rd exit of the roundabout follow the road up to the next junction turn right at the traffic lights with petrol station on the right.

Follow this road for approximately one mile until the next right turning marked "Moss Lane". Turn right into Moss Lane and follow this road for approximately half a mile until an "S" bend. After the "S" bend and crash gate on the right, follow the road for a further half a mile until a small lay-by on the left. At this point park the vehicle and walk towards the wooden fence through the gate (ensure all gates are CLOSED after use). Walk (DO NOT DRIVE if the gate is open) down the road until the runway and airport becomes visible. On the left is another gate. Go through this and follow the path until a small mound.

On Foot

A very long walk from the airport (!), but it can be done by following the same directions as above.

Facilities

There are no facilities.

Viewing

From here the back of the FLS hangar and NEA ramp are visible, plus great views of the airport and appears the ideal place for photographs of aircraft taxiing onto the new runway 24L.

Be aware Runway 24L is not used between 12 – 3pm local daily.

Hello Daniel,

These shots are taken from an area of higher ground near the threshold of Runway 24L.

It is pretty easy to get to, particularly if you have a car. If so, take Junction 6 of the M56, towards Wilmslow. At the large roundabout head right, down the A538, passing under the 2 tunnels for Runways 24R and L. Soon after the second tunnel (underneath Runway 24L) there is a small roundabout, before the Manchester Airport Moat House Hotel. Turn left here, up the hill and there is a small road on the right that heads towards the hotel car park. There is parking available here (though do it legally as sometimes the Police check out what is happening) and footpaths can be seen to Styal Woods. The first path - I think it is a bridleway, through a gateway - goes along and up the hill towards the runway. Head up and right and follow your nose - you can't really go wrong. When you get up the hill you will see the higher mound further to the right where these shots are taken from, easily accessed by more footpaths.

I hope this is easy to follow. If need be I can send you an airport map that may help further.

Cheers.

Paul

P.S. Looks like we're posting at the same time - Lew has already described these directions above.
