Looking For Spotting Locations At DFW And Denver

Wed Jul 13, 2005 10:57 am

I'll be on a business trip next week to DFW with lay-overs in Denver both ways. I'll be looking for good spotting locations in DFW this Sunday, I'll be getting in around 4pm so the Founders Plaza location puts the Sun in the wrong place - there any other locations for better light?

On my way back through Denver I've got about 4 hours to play with, there any good photo locations inside the airport or parking garages? What about near the airport, anyplace I could take a bus to?

Any ideas or links would be great!

Thanks,
Charles

At DEN, you can take a bus out to the rental car area and probably just walk to a good spot on the other side of the road, runway 7/25 sits right there and is almost an all-day runway in terms of light. Other spots can be found here:

Wow, the local police seem pretty strict in Denver.

I've only been doing aviation photography for a few months now and at my local airports (Seatac and Portland). I've only been stopped once and in that situation the officier was totally cool. After seeing I was no threat seemed more interested in talking about my car (which he parked behind) and cars in general.

Anyways, thanks for the link, I'll see if I can escape the confines of the terminal for an hour or two on my return flight.

Once when I first got my camera, parked on west side of 33rd right before it meets Marine Drive (by the boat shop). Was standing right off the east side of the 33rd shooting planes landing on 10R when a Port of Portland Police Officer pulled up, he pulled in behind my car on the other side of the street then confronted me. He asked what I was doing and for my ID. I gave it to him, explained what I was doing. He said people get "nervous" these days when they see people out taking pictures of airplanes so he was just making sure thats all I was up to. He never tried to intimidate me nor was he hostile (unlike other reports I've read about on the forums) and after determining I wasn't a threat he was pretty friendly then the car discussions insued (have a feeling he was having a slow day).
