Guadalajara (GDL) Tips

Tue Jul 19, 2005 3:53 am

When I booked a roundtrip BDL-MEX ticket for early August, American Airlines offered me a creative routing that I decided to take advantage of: BDL-DFW-GDL on American/American Eagle, then transferring to Mexicana for the GDL-MEX leg on an A320. This gives me the benefit of transiting a new airport for me (GDL) plus flying on a new airline for me, Mexicana.

My hidden agenda, obviously, is to be able to take some photos during my 2-hour GDL layover and also possibly during the approach and takeoff from the airport. Does anyone know of any decent places inside the terminal for photography? Is security much of a concern?

I didn't pay much attention to this when I booked the ticket, but I'm now concerned that this side trip involves a change of concourses from Concourse C to Concourse A. Is this likely to be a big hassle? Between clearing customs, re-checking my bag in with Mexicana and getting back in through security, I fear I'm going to burn up my 2-hour photography window on the plane change with no time for leisure.

Thru the windos of the terminal you have a nice view of all aircrafts, hopefully your flight arrive early, in that way have the sunlight on your side and everything taxiing or moving in front of you will have a very good light.

Don't worry in this one. It will be easy as GDL airport is very small!!

Hi, the terminal is really nice to take pictures, more or less all the aircraft taxi very close by. From concourse A to C should take you max. 2 minutes.

I spend half a day there last fall taking photographs and really enjoyed it.

Enjoy your time there !

As one of several alternatives I could go to GDL on the Aero California DC-9-10 next Friday, but the stay would be from 1130 in the morning until 1845 in the evening. As I understand Sebastian it is actually possible to stay so long at that airport without getting kicked out of the terminal by the authorities. Is the apron view limited to the airside part of the terminal or also from the land side? And what kind of traffic could one expect during an afternoon?

Cheers,
Tom

Hi, I guess it is too late now to reply here but anyways, you can stay in the terminal for as long as you want, nobody bothered. Traffic consists mainly of Aeromexico and Mexicana as well as Aviacsa and Aerocalifornia plus some US carriers (I saw Continental). The views are only from the airside.

Cheers
