Query For A Stange Badinfo/badcopyright Rejection.

Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:06 am

Hey all,

I just had a LH 744 and Champion 727 rejected today for badinfo/badcopyright. That is a first for me. I had a personal message that read:

"N683CA71405.jpg name and copyright not the same?"

The only thing I can think it would be, is that I recently changed my display name to Danny Fritsche - Airplanespotters. Where it was just Danny Fritsche before. By the personal message with the ? at the end, I would say it was uncertainty by the screener? Not sure. I appealed explaining that I am thinking it was the name change. The copyright bar that these are displaying is my old one. But...after appealing them, its not showing I have photos in the appeal queue. Even right after I appealed them. I'm not sure they made it to the queue. Here are the 2 shots in question.

Did it say "Danny Fritsche - Airplanespotters" on the upload page?

Also, URLs aren't allowed in signatures  Smile

Well that blows hard...

Danny,

I can't see this being the reason as I have had the same thing happen with no error, albeit a much slighter error but still no rejection.

No space between my name but still got accepted. Regardless of if it is or isn't your name why would a screener care about the copyright bar? Clearly its the same name and same photographer..... I don't know anymore..... I'm going to sleep....zzzzzz

Take care,

Matt

To tell you the truth, I can't really remember. But since I was logged in, it should have displayed my name correctly, no?

I am aware of that. That's why there IS no URL in my signature. My display name is no different from the numerous others such as airteamimages, etc. I have photos up already bearing the "Danny Fritsche - Airplanespotters" so I don't see where the problem lies. Also, I put the 2 shots in the appeal queue, and they never showed up as being there on the photo stats page. I'm not sure if they ever made it. Hopefully a screener can chime in on that one. I feel like I got a raw deal on this one. Hopefully we can get it sorted out. I would have to get more rejections like this.

Thanks,
Danny

Aad sent me an email earlier saying that it could be because you changed your name after you uploaded the images, and the copyright bar wasn't changed. Aad said he has informed the screeners of this so if this is the problem, it shouldn't happen again.

Re. signature, I meant your forum signature - the place for URLs is the homepage field in your profile, you can edit it here.

Ok...so it won't happen again? Can I appeal them? I hate to have my rejection rate go up because of a misunderstanding. I DID appeal them, but they never showed up in the queue.

Well, just happened to me! My airport overview pic was rejected because of a screen name change as well. Go figure. At this point I'm considering just not uploading anymore.  Sad

Danny - the safest thing to do is to upload them again. That way the copyright bar will match and all will be ok. Make sure you put a note to screeners explaining why you've done that. Email us and we'll try to look at them faster than the usual queue length.

We've been rejecting images when photos in the queue do not match the photographer's name in the database because that is a classic evidence generated when people try to by-pass the upload-limits by using multiple IDs. That is not to say that it's irrefutable evidence, but leads us to be concerned.

A recent development on the site which we (screeners) were unaware of is the function for photographers to change their own names automatically. The heavy use of that feature has led to wide-spread mismatches in the photographers name between database and copyright bar.

Effectively we have lost one of our tools for detecting excessive multiple-uploaders, conversely photographers now have the ability to frequently re-name themselves.

From now on we'll give up checking that copyright bar, unless we see something outrageous.

I don't believe this is yet active...e-mails have to be sent to editors, no? I know it is a feature to come though.

Can I ask how this is true? Here's why I say this...Let's say I upload my photos under Cameron Bowerman. My copyright will come out that way on the photo, but then I do a name change to Cameron Bowerman - Airplanespotters. Now, my older photos will say Cameron Bowerman that are in the queue still, but my name has been changed. Obviously, this is what happened above to Danny. Now, how is it so that this is a precaution for multiple id's? How in the world would a photo watermaked by a.net say Cameron Bowerman under the ID that was "changed" to Cameron Bowerman - Airplanespotters without it OBVIOUSLY being a name change? A.net makes those watermarks/copyrights on the photos, so I don't see how your point above is any bit valid.

Now, what do you propose I myself do? I have some photos just like Danny above that are in the queue, but I have had a name change since....what shall I do? The last thing I need is such a rejection hurting my acceptance rate.

I think Tamsin clearly answered your question:

Photos will no longer be rejected over this, so you are safe. You need to do nothing.
