UK Spotters: Help Needed With Finnair 757s ..

Wed Aug 03, 2005 11:43 pm

I need to know which registrations are the Finnair 757s based in the UK that fly to Sanford, Florida (SFB). I'm not sure if they rotate them, I understand there are about 3 of them.

I'm looking to get a shot of the ones still in the older scheme. If anybody could tell me in advance if one is coming so I can call in late to work that day I'd really apreciate it Big grin

I believe the Finnair 757s are rotated between the UK and Finland every month.
FWIW, the Finnair 757s are based at Manchester and Newcastle and operate for Air Scandic...

Hello,

Air Scandic do use Finnair 757s for their Long-Haul Program.

To supply you with the most accurate information, I have given you instructions on how to locate the flights you are interested in on the simple to use Air Scandic Website.

1. Go to www.airscandic.com

2. Click the sun on the left of "Destinations"

3. Where it says "Select your destination" click Orlando (Sanford)

4. Click Go

This will bring up all Air Scandic flights to Orlando Sanford, including Aircraft type, Dates of operation, Times and the Departure Airport.

If you require any more information on Air Scandic, please don't hesitate to ask as I have a fair amount of information on this Airline.

So which are be the planes based in the UK in August?? I'm sure someone from Finnair or Air Scandic knows which plane is flying on what day.

Thanks  Smile yes I've done that before and have noticed that they are not doing the Sunday flights listed there. At least not the past 2 sundays anyway.

What I was thinking was, since the planes take off during daytime from the UK, maybe someone could e-mail me.. or even call me! (no stalkers!) Big grin if it's one in the old livery which is the one I need.

Hi Guys,

I have seen just about all of Finnair's 757s at MAN over the last 12 months, so they are definitely rotated.

Here's a website that lists the more unusual movements in and out of the airport, though and after a quick scan I can't see any booked for August.

http://www.ringwayreports.co.uk/whatsdue.htm

Could they be flying out of another UK airport?

Tim.
Obviously missing something....

Can confirm SCY are using Finnair 757's for the Sanford flights from MAN aswell as some European routes, today's SFB flight was operated by OH-LBU which has been based at MAN for a few days and is in the old Finnair colours.

Ok, AIHTOURS, Air Scandic are no longer an "airline". They haven't been an "airline" since they got rid of the A300s, and Air Cordial suspended the AOC that Scandic was using.
Air Scandic, are now more like a Broker, if you know what I mean.
If you check the Fleet section of the SCY website, you'll see the following

Quote:

All flights operated to & from Manchester/Glasgow/Belfast and Newcastle Airports are operated by Finnair using a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
All flights operated to & from East Midlands Airport are operated by JetX using an MD-83 aircraft.
All flights to & from Stansted Airport are operated by Viking Airlines using an MD-83 aircraft.

The actual operators of SCY flights are Finnair, JetX and Viking.
Air Scandic, as an airline, no longer exists. It exists in broker form.
If you want more info, start a thread in civil aviation forum, and someone like Crosswind will answer you in a more complete way than I can.
Hope that helps.
Cheers

GVBIG.

I know about the operations of Air Scandic and all the Airlines which are involved. I experience the handling Air Scandic flights everyday at the Airport.

You could say that they are not an Airline for the reasons you stated.

Me and Various other people consider them an Airline personally, they are discussed or this Website Airliners.net, and are considered an Airline at the Airport.

Remember the definition of an Airline:

"An airline is an organization providing aviation services to passengers and/or cargo. It owns or leases airliners with which to supply these services and may form partnerships or alliances with other airlines for reasons of mutual benefit."

They offer Aviation Services to passengers
It leases Airliners
They form partnerships

Ingredients of being an Airline.

They are stated as being an Airline on Wikipedia.

"Air Scandic is an airline whose registered office is in Jersey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom."

I'll let Crosswind concentrate on his First Choice posts.

I will enquire about this issue tommorow and get back to you.

Thanks for your help in this thread.

I wasn't sure if I should go for it but went and barely made it to SFB just in time, and to my surprise YESS! old colors! First time seeing those in person too.

Some clouds filtered some of the light but that's ok sun angle right now is too high anyways for SFB shots with full sun. I'd like to get it again with more sun though. I wanted to get it departing but had to drive down to MCO with enough time to get the arriving Maxjet 767 you guys got the other day.

Good info there. So if they are no longer an actual "airline" why do some of the aircraft have Air Scandic titles and the airports like SFB for example lists them as an airline? They also list Travel City Direct as an airline, I'm not sure fi they are or not. Can someone clear that up for me?

BTW the Scandic flights to SFB are operated from Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow.
