Your Opinions On This Shot Please?

Sun Aug 07, 2005 6:46 pm

Good day folks,

Can you give me your opinions on this shot - worth an upload or should I have stayed in bed?

Hello,

This is certainly an interesting shot and personally I like it. This said it will not be to everyone's taste and I suppose the fact that the landing lights are obscuring part of the aircraft could equate to badmotive. I think it is a pity that the tail of the aircraft is not quite lined up with the centre lighting pole and this slightly spoils the shot for me although I think the basic idea was very clever. The other thing which I think is a problem is that the lighting poles do not look to be vertical. I would have said the frame need slight counter clockwise rotation to get the poles vertical.

Just my thoughts for what they are worth.

Good luck,

John  Smile

Thanks for your thoughts John, as you say, not to everyones taste - obviously the large version is a lot more impressive. I tried rotating the frame but whichever way you measure it, the left hand light needs rotating to counter clockwise but the right hand one needs rotating clockwise so whichever way you cut it, it looks more out of kilter than it does now.

I'll wait for a few more opinions then decide whether to upload!

Thanks again,

Hi Stuart,

Excellent photo.... get it uploaded! The leveling situation... i would level it based on the middle pole..

The concept of the shot is interesting and I really like the air condensing over the wing and the vortices. However the lights in my mind are very distracting and they don't add much to the image. If the aircraft was above the lights I'd agree it would be more worthy of uploading, but otherwise I would say not.

If you do decide to upoad it, I would take consider what John said with regard to the vertical looking a bit off, and I would add say crop in a little tighter as the aircraft is off centre vertically with more above the aircraft than below.

Regards
Martin

Badmotiv I'm afraid.

Can you re-upload to the forum in 1024x768 or higher?

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNN!!! That's a sweet shot dude! Think you could send me a 1280x1024 version that I could throw onto my desktop background rotation?

I'm with Tim, the motive is questionable with the poles where they are, but I do like the overall feel. Just not the location of the poles. It would have been a much better photo with the aircraft above them. Did you by chance shoot a series of these? If not, in situations like that, it might be wise to shoot the buffer so you make sure you have "choices" to pick from, and avoid getting only one shot that may or may not be worthy.

Sadly, I got shots of the aircraft coming towards me (which were good but too 'silhouetted') and turned round to grab this one last minute - never been up there at that time of the morning before and never been at that particular location but I'll know for next time!!

Thanks for your comments guys,
