Canon EOS 350D Software Upgrade

Wed Aug 10, 2005 9:49 pm

My Canon EOS 350D (aka Digital Rebel XT) currently runs firmware 1.0.1. On Canon's website there is firmware 1.0.2 which fixes a few issues.

Has anyone in here ever upgraded Canon firmware? Is it "safe", or is it somewhat risky, meaning that I have a 30% chance of trashing the camera? Firmware upgrades used to be risky in the earlier computer days, for example when you upgraded the mainboard's BIOS, but nowadays they seem more and more "safe". I have never upgraded a camera though.

Any opinions?

Thanks
-Manuel

I have always kept my 10D and 1Dii up to date with Canon's firmwares.

As long as you follow the instuction by the letter they are safe.
A freshly charged battery and a formatted memory card are all you need.

I have done it with my XT with no problems. Go for it.

Thank you for the tips. I just upgraded to 1.0.2 and it worked.

Sorry for my ignorance...

I have a brand new 350. How could I know which "firmware" is currently running?

Where can I find it?

Thanks a lot!

Make sure you are not in "full automatic" mode (for example, go into "P" mode). Then hit "Menu" and go to the 5th menu (hit the "right" arrow 4 times). The last line shows the current firmware release. Mine came with 1.0.1.
