5 QF's Currently At Frankfurt!

Fri Aug 12, 2005 6:12 pm

due to the strike by BA there are 5 QF tails sitting at Frankfurt currently! so anywhere in Frankfurt now is your chance to go shoot QF in daylight hours!

VH-OJN
VH-OJR
VH-OJF
VH-OJM
VH-OJC

all scheduled to leave at 1400 back to Asia, though i think one may go on to London but i am not 100% sure and QF006 will leave as normal tonight.

Reports from JNB suggest Zak Economides has already detonated due to over-excitement.
It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

I do believe Wunala departed SYD Friday at 10:50 (Local) as QF107 for LAX/JFK.

I photographed her heading South on 16R at 11:11

Regards

Chris

PS I believe it was QF 107.. I am sure about Wunala leaving SYD at that time!!!!  Smile

Wunula seems to be common on the LAX route. I saw it three times in the 4 days i was around LAX (The third time being 3 weeks after the 1st and 2nd). Beautiful aircraft!

Eric,

I don't have ACARS data to confirm.. but I have gone back over the photos I took at SYD today and cross checked the departure times against my photo EXIF data and I am pretty sure.

I had company today and was not paying as much attention to the scanner as I normally do.

Regards

Chris.

PS left SYD 12 hours ago.. I guess you will know pretty soon!!

This is very unfortunate for BA & their pax, but I'm sure we will see some highly unusal photos over the next days. 5 QF jumbos at FRA & scores of BA intercontinental flights diverted to regional UK airports. This is going to be fun. Big grin

You all owe me a pint as I was the one who arranged with Apron Control to have all 4 divs parked next to each other.
Hehehe, hope you got some good pics.
Seemed like most of the airport staff went and took a picture or two.

Only JN has gone so far. Two more will go about 0100CET and the last about midday tomorrow.

I wonder why they didn't divert them to LGW where BA do their own handling?

FRA seems a bit drastic, but I suppose there are plently of connecting flights to all over the UK.

Nobody seems to know why they came to FRA. IMO it was a *stupid* decision. The customer service staff have been tearing their hair out all day trying to get the passengers to their destinations or in a hotel room.
They could not divert to LGW simply because BA have their own ground handlers at LGW (think about it).
They could have diverted to many other UK airports (just like the diverted BA flights).
There may be plenty of BA flights to UK airports from FRA but most go to LHR and there weren't any of those. Other BA flights are rather small minijets. All LH flights were chokka. Most of the passengers ex-QF are now in local hotels.

Why not? Plenty of free gates and no striking staff. This would have seemed to be the obvious choice. I'm sure that BAA could have found slots for a few more aircraft.

They could indeed have gone to other UK airports, MAN would have been a good choice, just more costly if you're having to pay someone else to do everything.

At least if they'd been brought to the UK alternative ways of getting people home could have been found, leaving only the transfer pax to be put up for the night.

Think about it.....
Why did no BA aircraft (bound for LHR) divert to LGW?

BA loaders at LHR have walked out.
A BA handled a/c (normally flying to LHR) arrives at LGW.
What are the BA loaders at LGW gonna do? Or, in this case, *not* do.

The "troublesome" element are restricted to LHR though. If they were going to walk out at LGW, they would have done so the other day. The staff at LGW are members of the T&G union like their counterparts at LHR.

Perhaps BA didn't want to take any chances?

I don't know what to say.
1000 (or so) BA staff walked out.
44,000 staff have no idea why those 1000 walked. (OK, maybe some know)
44,000 staff do not support what the 1000 did.
44,000 staff care. 1000, apparently, do not.
Maybe they won't be 1000 staff much longer.

Hi all

I'm no moderator but keep on topic please or stuff will be deleted.

I was seriously looking forward to a weekends photography at Heathrow with a good friend. Lots of stuff I was looking forward to, stuff I have never got on digital SLR before and I am on my second upgrade.

I had a good chat with the telephone operator about my flight refund......a little bit of fun and she thanked me for making her feel happy as it had been a long day.

So......anyone photographing at Heathrow this weekend, I will be watching the uploads closely and feeling a little jealous.

Regards

Gary

Hi guys,
just got back home. There were four of the QF's there when I was there. Right next to each other too, what a beautiful sight. The only problem was, they were too far away for me to shoot them from were I was since I would have had to hop the rail on the deck. I bet, some staff working back there made sure to take a couple of pics though.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Don't worry too much, the weather down here doesn't look too promising for the weekend, perhaps when you do come south you will be blessed with excellent conditions.

they went to Frankfurt because they needed to be turned around and sent back to Asia for stranded passengers there, i think QF didn't want to take the chance of flying to the UK and not being able to leave so Fra was the obvious choice and the easiest for them.

We had our fair share of BA heavies out at JFK this evening, too, but it seems StealthZ (and good 'ol Mont) were right about things brightening up on the East Coast...

What we went through to get that damn plane, though...I wouldn't be surprised if the spotters over here went on strike as soon as the Brits are done! :-p

I think BA should post 1,000 new job openings, and write 1,000 termination letters. There is no excuse for this crap.

Is that an airport or a rockfestival?  Wink No seriously, I feel very sorry for all those stranded pax. Back in 2003 I also got stuck in LHR because of a similar strike. fortunately the next day we got on the only flight or so LHR-BRU.
