Opinions On This Photo

Fri Aug 12, 2005 11:20 pm

Back in March I made this photo from a Martinair freighter passing by the second control tower at AMS.

This one was rejected for "badquality"

Yesterday evening I was photograph some line-up traffic at 36L and they start take off from 36C also.
I made this shot from a Dragon Air freighter.

What do you guys think of this one,is it worth uploading here?
The light is in my opinion better as the Martinair photo.
As I am a bit careful with uploading this kind of stuff,I ask your opinion.

Cheers,
William

There is alot of dead space doing nothing also, is that tower actually wonky like that?

Hi William, I can see what you were trying to achieve but the tower stands out as the main focal point and it makes the images look like you were taking a shot of the tower and the aircraft just happened be in the background at the time.

Mark.

So?
The image is still a nice one and a big improvement on the martinair shot.

I would defiantly upload it IMO crop a bit tighter to the nose of the aircraft.
Good luck

IMO You're in a spot where one asks close or far? Next time when you go out and shoot, from a viewers eyes, try to zoom out more to shw more tower. For these just crop closer as Jumbo has stated.

Hi William,

I like the shot - it is good to see variety on A.net.

But I have to say to my eye that control tower looks just a bit like it needs a small amount of CW rotation. A small point, but you don't want a rejection for something like that after all your effort.

It's a small thing and a bit of a judgement call, but there is just something about the way the tower looks to me. Of course, it is not helped by the way the left hand side slopes anyway, and I wondered if it was just an optical illusion. So I have had a closer look and using that lower vertical side on the right hand side - or drawing a line from the centre of the 'golf ball' down to the centre of the tower base (not very reliable I do admit) - they both agreed that somewhere in the region of 0.5 degree does make a slight, but significant difference.

I hope this is of some help.

Paul
