My First Departure Pics

Sat Aug 13, 2005 8:09 am

Hi Everbody!
I ventured out today to take my first pics of airliners in flight (instead of General Aviation planes on the ramp). How do you think they turned out? Do they stand any kind of a chance?
Thanks alot
Eric  Smile

Nice. Good detail. Not sure the last one is a particularly pleasing angle, but they look like a good effort to me.

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

1.) Whites are blown out (overexposed) and soft
2.) Soft
3.) Soft
4.) Soft and re-crop so the plane is in the middle of the picture
5.) Soft, also re-crop, and the whites are blown out on this one too.

Nice shots though! I see from your profile you are an aviation student in DAB, are you at Embry-Riddle by chance?

Hope that helps!

Hi Eric,

I would agree with the feedback so far - the key for me is that they all look a bit soft. They need more or different USM to be applied for them to make it though, I think.

Not sure that that is the best crop ratio to suit Number 4, and I agree with James about Number 5.

We are a critical lot here, aren't we  wink .

All the best.

We're critical because we care! Great shot Eric, I agree with Sync's assessment. Try practicing with USM, and always ALWAYS make sure the subject is perfectly centered in the photo. Great shots!  bigthumbsup

Thanks for the help. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do for the overexposed pics, but I definitely play around with the USM a bit, recrop #4, and resubmit a couple.

I really appreciate it though! It's the only way I'll improve  Wink .
