Now I'm Puzzled (rejects)

Mon Aug 15, 2005 7:47 pm

Hi all!

I was all optimistic when uploading this set of photos because it was with my new lens.

Then 13 go and get rejected. I don't know where to start. I have sent the photos to many other photographers on MSN they haven't said much was wrong.

I think I am going to post the rejects without reasons so I can see if the reasons are justified.

If this is a bad idea just say and I will add the reject reasons aswell!

So what were those 6 rejected for ?

maybe im blind or out of practice , but im puzzled too ...

Love the Kuwait 747 BTW

if anything they could go by the book and say the Lufty regional "motive" for the crop ..

otherwise ... i dunno ..

none really deserve an outright rejection  Sad

cheers Tony

Hi Dom,

1st: A bit soft maybe? Can't think of another reason.

2nd: Baddark? BA's fuselage is blue, not black  Smile

3rd: I dont know.

4th: Baddark again, due to the time of the day I guess.

5th: No idea, I've seen tons of worse photos from the same spot.

6th: Baddark

Well, that's it.  Smile

All look a bit oversharpened to me?

I love the Kuwait 74 though, is it level?

It's crazy though. Just shows how random the reasons are. You are no mug Fergul to editing.

Well I edited to what I feel is level. But it didn't get badlevel so....

I'm jsut going to have to brighten them all up. Sharpen some. Re upload wait another 7 days then get them rejected for a different reason.

Cheers Dom

Dom,

Stay positive.. you have come a long way in a short time.

The acceptances will come.. and many of them.

Try not to get to down Dom.... We have all been there and know how frustrating it can be... But try to stay positive. Im sure you will get another day soon where 10 out of 10 are accepted !!!! Big grin

Have to agree with the screeners on their rejections re bad contrast and bad dark. Also love th KU shot. Its a killer spot if the weathers right.... I also thought that it could be bad level so maybe check that out before reuploading.

To add my two pence worth. I think your suffering from the infamous grey bottom problem.

1. Grey bottom does it no favours.
2. BA A320 at LHR, nuff said.
3. The tree kills it.
4. Grey bottom
5. I like this shot. This said, depending on what time of day it was taken, suspect around 16.00 the sun is going to be on the nose. Have the sides been touched up? As for the heat haze, that's going to be unavoidable.
As for Ryangooner's comment, "is it level?" just cracks me up! Indeed, there are far worse shots on the d/b taken at that location.
6. Grey bottom.

Dom,

You're in that very fine margin where the images are 95% there, it's just that last 5% is the hardest to achieve, I'd also say you got a fairly hard screener.

I've had a hard time with LHR in the summer, they're common subjects and you've got to get everything just so.

Don't get despondent, you'll get there.

Not that this will help you much Dom, I had this shot accepted. I used it as a bench mark for the others.

The only one I would agree is badsoft for LH CRJ.

I was going to slag Fergul off in public but found my First Class expired this morning so I had to do it in private. I have still not got even with him for calling me a fat bastard - I am simply well built, not fat!
Anyway, the bad darks all look a bit on the dark side to me and I wonder if you should check or re-check your monitor as these can drift with time.
I think that in the Kuwait jumbo shot the screening has been particularly harsh. Yes, the highlights are verrrryyyy slightly blown but the photo is slightly contre-jour (as Germans say when speaking French) and I think the exposure is spot on.The examples Fergul uses above are good examples of the same type of shot.
I would re-process all of them, though the Kuwait one might be worth an appeal.

I think they are similar to one on my recently accepted photos:

Irrespective of technical or screener considerations - that Kuwait 747 is a great shot!  bigthumbsup

Keep up the good work and don't be disheartened.

To be honest, when i first looked at them i thought contrast on a lot of them!

They are good shots and are probably very close to acceptance!

Keep them coming and dont get dis hearted!

Common aircraft, high summer sun, heat haze, contrast, common airport, high temperatures etc.

We've all been through this.......

Great advice there Jon  Yeah sure

So what your trying to say is that photographers should cease uploading Heathrow shot's from now on? Stop uploading 747's? Stop Shooting in High Temperatures?

My upload ration was not affected either because I hadn't uploaded 50 photos before the rejections it only changed part way through so it actually went up wooho

Shows improvement!

How do I find my ratio and my percentages? I haven't been able to in a long time. I know this probably belongs in "Site-Related" but I didn't want to start a whole thread for this simple, stupid question, and when I did a search nothing came up, but I may have searched for the wrong keywords.

Out of all those, the one that got accepted is the only one that I thought would not get in.

Have a close look at the wheels. They don't look round. I got a shot rejected for the same problem recently.

I don't blame you for feeling hard done by! Keep trying. Don't let them get you down!
