Photos At LAX

Tue Aug 16, 2005 1:21 pm

Sorry guys but newbie to this forum and US photography as not long arrived from UK but now resident in Santa Cruz.
Next Sunday I am flying down to LAX to fetch a kitten for my wife and have engineered 6 hours at LAX.
I am sure cameras are not welcome in the airport so where are the nearest local safe spots please around the perimeter where the police are user friendly if you get my drift.
I presume I would have to get a cab there so what do I ask for please.
All help gratefully received.
I have a Canon 10d plus the 100-400 lens so don't have to be right on the fence I guess but might need somewhere with access to a restroom!!!!! if I am going to be around for about 6 hours!! arriving about 8.30am and flying back to SJC on the 6.15pm flight.
Thanks in advance.

I passed through there on my way back to Hong Kong just over a week ago so I'm not very familiar with all the spots. However, I camped out in the carpark of the Proud Bird Restaurant:

Your lens will be fine but you might want to take a shorter tele (I was down to 70 on my 70-200 and still struggling with side-ons of the heavies) and a wide angle for the aircraft/replicas at the restaurant itself.

Obviously food, water and restrooms very convenient - I would certainly recommend having a browse around the pictures inside the restaurant/bar.

Have fun!

Actually, as luck would have it, LAX is very photographer friendly...both scenery and policing wise....I'd be more concerned about the marine layer from time to time.  Wink

Good spots at LAX:

In N' Out Burger on Sepulvada Blvd. There is a park there with some great views!

Next is the bridge just west of the In N' Out burger. If you follow the road that In N' Out is on it will take ya right to it.

Beware, though, as I believe this spot is mostly good in the summer.

Last but not least, Imperial Hill, which is on the south side of the airport, and just down the street from Embassy Suites:

Best of luck to ya, and enjoy LAX! It's a GREAT place to shoot!
