Japanese Version Of EOS350D

Wed Aug 17, 2005 2:45 am

In Japan the Canon EOS 350D is known as the EOS Kiss. Does anybody know if the display of this Japanese version comes in English?
Thanks

In the US the 350D is called the Digital Rebel XT, you might have more luck in the photography forum.

You can find a good review of the camera here.

I didn't hear of any other name for it.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Edit: it was irrelevant what I wrote before, but there are 15 languages you can choose from.

I am almost positive that the EOS Kiss Digital is the counterpart to the Digital Rebel (300D), NOT the 350D or Rebel XT.

Canon seems to have a different name for their products in different countries.

As an example:

Europe = Canon 300D
N. America = Canon Digital Rebel
Japan = Canon Eos Kiss Digital

This applies to Canons entire line up of EOS cameras

Even the Japanese version, the Kiss that is? You know how the Japanese have this habit of using Japanese language only on products destined for Japan. I am asking because I have asked a friend to bring one for me from Japan but it will be useless if the screen displays only Japanese text.

As Alexandru says above, there are reviews of the 350D/Kiss N camera here and here where it appears to confirm that the camera is of universal build, with the menu screen being able to be changed to one of the 15 languages (including Japanese) supported. The physical differences seem to be cosmetic.

On the 300D/Kiss, the Japanese version supported some features as standard not included elsewhere, for example IR control. Otherwise is was the same camera as shipped throughout the world. It may be the same is true of Kiss N, where you may find extra features that are locked out elsewhere. I would also guess that the camera will be supplied with Japanese and English manuals (my Canadian 300D had French and English manuals).

I think the naming convention is a continuation from the original EOS 'Kiss', which was a small, light, simple SLR that Canon marketed as an introduction to their SLR range.
It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

I would not know 100% but it would seem kind of stupid if all other versions had 15 languages to choose from and the Japanese version had only Japanese, right? There's tons of tourists in Japan and I'm sure some of them bought cameras or other electronic devices.
