This whole sensor size issue must be real annoying for at least some Canon-users... three different sensor sizes and EF-S lenses won't fit etc.

I reckon this will be very popular among the wideangle lovers =) Poor X-sync though?
what seems to be the officer, problem?

Not for the WA lovers that have lenses made for the 1.6x crop. lol. (IE Tokina 12-24mm/Tamron 11-18mm etc)

Yeah that's what I mean, the EF-S lenses wont fit will they? And Canons wideangle lenses aren't known to be very good either.

The 'standard' setting for "Crisp, vivid pictures that don't require post processing" is interesting; I wonder if that's a big difference over present standard output from the DSLR range, or whether it's similar to something you'd get from 'Parameter 1' on a 300D, i.e. still not terribly sharp or colourful.

I totally agree!
Sometimes you just need that extra few mm's.
Compensating the 1.6 crop at low range using focal lenghts below 28mm seems a lot easier than increasing the focal length of a 400mm+ lens by using a converter or even a different lens (which at this focal length can get quite expensive)

I was obviously wrong when i stated my opinion about this camera in a previous thread and i do apologise.

Anyway, back to the camera...

Is it wrong that i am on a waiting list for this and a 24-105F4LIS..... Big grin

I just have too, this is what i want from my non action camera!!! And the cheaper price over the 1dsmkii means i can afford to keep my 1dmkii aswell! Big grin I'm super happy!

Now that 1dmkiiN looks tempting.... hehe  Silly (I wasnt wrong about this one though!)

What would the lowest price be in a few months? 1000 euro for the 20D?

Can you imagine how sharp shots from this thing will be!!!
Full frame so no multiplication of softness by 1.6 then put a 300/2.8 on the front.Man it will be the sharpest thing out bar none.
Also finally get great value from a 17-40 where you get the full 17 as opposed to 28.
With12 MP as well you can crop well into the frame to give you some extra effective length as well.
Better start saving now!!

Me....Canon.....nah, always have been a Nikon man, you know that. Happy with my D70, and the results that it brings me, just patiently waiting for the D200.

But it was a good try! Big grin

Hmmmm, not so sure about this. Look at the example pis on the canon.jp site. On the landscape with the 17-40 is evident of extreme softness in the corners and evidence of lightfall off. The shots with the 85F1.8 and the 100mmMacro look promising but the 17-40 i am dissapointed with. The 24F1.4L would perform better i imagine, if not then it looks like some zeiss and leica lenses are the way to go for my studio wides.

Is a 1.6 or any sensor-size-related crop really an advantage? Doesn't the existence of such a crop mean that you're just starting with less image in the first place? If, for example, you crop a 5D's 4368 x 2912 image down to the 20D's maximum 3504 x 2336, haven't you achieved an equivalent boost in "zoom"? (Asking as a curious non-digital user.)

Not really... If you crop the 12.8Mp full frame sensor to the size of the 20D sensor, you're left with 5Mpixels. (Notice that the 1.6 is a size devision (length & width both 1.6 times smaller on a 20D), so pixels = 12.8/1.6/1.6)
That's less than my 10D...

Eduard

PS, another reason why I'll skip this one: It's 3200 Euros. indifferent  For that amount of money I can buy a 20D for 1200 and get a very nice lens for the other 2000 (like a 2nd hand 300mm f2.8)!

Hi all

I'll pass on this upgrade.

Still happy with the 20D and produces great images and prints. That's all I want.

Another point that has not been mentioned is the actual psyical size of the pixels on the sensor.

The 5D has a pixel size somewhere in the region of 8.2 wheras the 1dmk2/20D are much smaller.

It's an interesting format and unless you want the full frame sensor or want to really benefit from using wide angle lenses, I can't see that for aviation in particular that this would be suitable model.

I think given the expected price for the 5D at around £2500, I think the 1DMkII is a much better bet and is also better value now. By the time you've added a battery grip and a second battery that will not doubt be available, the £500 gap to the new 1D MkII N doesn't seem too much either.

I'm sticking with my 1D MkII, I love it

Martin
