Rejections, Some Help Please.

Wed Aug 24, 2005 5:09 pm

I'm getting a little concerned at the steady decline in my acceptances. A little help with these would be appreciated:

1) NOAsoft, NOA category. Categories selected - 'Private', 'Prop'.

2) NOAsoft.

3) NOALevel

I don't think these are that bad..what say you?

Cheers

James

Hi James

First one I would agree, it is a tab soft, another kick might be ok.
Second, can't really see any softness there, maybe slightly on the wings, leading edge.
Third, mmm well this issue of level again. I can only think that the screener is using the reference where the grass edge meets the concrete. It runs almost the length of the photo and this is the cause. To me the photo looks level but I guess they are using this reference and rejecting it. So maybe some CW rotaion, as Gabriel mentioned, would make that line more level.

I agree with Gabriel too, the rejections are a bit harsh.

Hope that helps

Take care

1). I think that the correct categories to select are 'prop' and 'warbird', judging by other photos of that aircraft in the database. As for the NOAsoft judging - it's borderline. It's a bit harsh for that to have been rejected, however it could do with just a little more sharpening in places (e.g. the tail area).

2). Like photo (1), badsoft for this one is borderline. It would be okay with a bit more sharpening, but it certainly doesn't look too soft as-is either.

3). Hmm... As a whole it looks like it needs a little CW rotation, however what few verticals there are on the left seem to indicate that the photo is fairly level. Not sure about this one.

Good luck!
Cheers,
Gabriel

The 1st one is a warbird...
The 2nd I can't judge here in the office, as my monitor is crap...
The 3rd one: Check how high the horizon is just right of the tail compared to the left of the picture. The whole 'look' seems unlevel, and the horizon proves this (unless there are hills there).

Eduard

PS, the 3rd one: the verticals on the left are correct/vertical, but because you used a very wide angle lens, verticals on the edge of the frame always slant. So don't use verticals on the edge of the frame to level when shooting with a wide angle lens, only use verticals in the middle of the frame.

I agree with 1 soft and should be warbird and 3 Mr Bouncy castle gives the game away Big grin

2 seems a little harsh to me, shallow DOF giving the impression of a soft background.

I've redone two of them, I've left the Socata out because I felt the submitted version was as good as I could get it, but there was some definite latitude in the Stearman.

Thanks for the feedback,

James
