It is very possible!  biggrin

Depending on what runway they are using there are many spots. Art Brett has a great website that has all of these detailed. I may be wrong but I think it is

www.anniebees.com

If they are using 13L the cargo area is awesome. Right in front of Air India or next to the Taxi stand is good.

If they are using 31R the Costco and BK on Rockaway are good. If they are arriving 22L there is a soccer field behind a school that we refer to as the "mounds" which is also great.

Good luck!  airplane

Soundtrack, I was there in April and all the above spots were great. Here's what I considered the best though..... (Cough...plug...cough)!

For 13L approach shots, from the Cargo area mentioned above, I got this:

From the mounds, (22L arrivals), then expect the run-of-the-mill sort of approach shot obtainable nearly anywhere; something like this in the afternoon:

Or this, from Rockaway Blvd, in the morning:

There's also another spot for 13L arrivals that banking approach shots can be taken, like this:

Hope it helps, but in case it doesn't, try Art's site, or Phil Derner's (nycaviation).
