Is This A Special Or A Hybrid/special Scheme?

Mon Aug 29, 2005 7:16 am

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering whether this one falls in the category special or hybrid/special marking?

Drake, special and hybrid/special are two separate categories you can select on the upload confirmation page. I think Sebastion is asking which of these two categories it is.

It is a good question too - I've always been confused by these two categories and have wondered what the difference between them is. I usually just base the choice on what others before me have done with the same rego, but I think you can find examples where the same rego has been selected into both categories.

I've found the 'help' link that accompanies these two categories not particularly helpful either (in terms of highlighting the difference between them).

I'd be interested if any one could explain the difference between these two categories.

Quoting Cboyes (Reply 2):

Yea that's what I meant. I mean it is a nice picture after all, but the question was more related to which box to check when uploading rather than just commenting on the picture.

So, any chance a screener or other knowledgeable person could chime in here with some pearls of wisdom... ?

OK.. in the absence of any other explanation, here goes.

My understanding of "special scheme" .. applied to 1 or few aircraft eg..

Hybrid scheme, .. displays markings of more than one operator or owner eg..

Happy to stand corrected if there is a better explanation..

Where this gets into a grey area is the slight changes such as a special event decal or painted radome!!

So what is that LH with the soccerball on the nose then? The other thing is, you can't even select hybrid on the photo search page can you?

Hybrid / Special if I understand the help text on the second upload page correctly.

I have a pic of the same plane in the queue currently and that's what I selected. Special seems to be very colourful versions, whereas this is for a special mark on an otherwise "normal" livery (or a combination livery). As the plane looks like any other LH plane except for the nose, I think it should be Hybrid/Special.

The pic was taken from inside the terminal building so the quality isn't great. Any comments would be welcome of course!

It looks a bit oversharpened, especially around the nose at first glance.

Yes it looks oversharpened doesn't it... I think I'll forget about it, because I seem to have jaggies even before I start editing, and I can't seem to get rid of the noise neither.

By the way, do people actually like this football marking? I think it looks really weird...
