100% Acceptance Ratio?

Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:59 pm

Just curious, with all the talk about acceptance ratios and rejections lately...

How many of you have currently, or had an acceptance ratio of 100% over at least your last 50 photos?

I did up until this shot...

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...jections/big/n212feslc081205jm.jpg

I have to hand it to the screener, very good catch. I really can't believe I missed something so simple. And this was after my normal three day "cooling off" period before uploading. By "cooling off", I mean after processing a photo, I normally look at it at least two more days for a total of three separate looks prior to uploading, unless I am pretty sure it is o.k.

Oh, well, at least I made it to 100% once, might be awhile before I get there again.  Smile 98% aint bad by any measure, it just doesn't have the same sense of accomplishment.

Though I do think 100% acceptance IS an achievement, I think I'd be worried if I ever see that figure in my stats, because it would probably mean I am not trying hard enough to submit something out of the ordinary.

You knew I would disagree, didn't you?  Wink

Hi Jeff,

Since I am a beginner with only 1 shot accepted and I want to learn from you guys, can I ask what the mistake was? Thanx  Smile

Good point...I guess some will strive for 100%, and achieve maximum upload status, but maybe never use it.

I'm sure the crew would like to see 'some' arty/different pics?

A batch of say 300 Boeing 737 pictures must be a little boring to screen?

my acceptance ratio is around 60% - 70% due to the fact that I got a lot of Baddirty rejections ....

Yep, see it the same way, also I am not using my slots anyway ... , most of the time I have around 30 pics in the queque ....

I always try to get the best image possible, whether it is our boring blue sky shots here in Denver, a simple GA Cessna at the local field, or during my trips. I separate the quality of the image from the uniqueness of the subject.  Wink As to disagreeing? Trust me, it is a breath of fresh air to see an opposing view point rather then the usual smoke getting blown up someone's skirt.  Smile

I agree, I don't really care about the 70 upload slots, during my run to 100%, I don't think I ever had more then 15 shots uploaded on any given day. Dumping 70 shots of anything at one time is too much in my opinion.

Jeff,

Certainly a remarkable achievement, and some nice shots in that 50, I do like photos with something in the background.
Having said that I tend to agree with Javabi about.. pushing the envelope.. but as a humble 10D using amateur what would I know?  Smile

Not me... The occasional soft, category, info, centered and motiv (I did some 'experimenting'  Smile) rejections dragged me down to 84%...  Smile

Being more careful and choosy on my uploads dragged me UP to 84%!  Smile

Having got to these dizzy heights (I used to be a mid-60's person), I feel more confident to upload a couple of more, shall we say, motive risky shots in the future. Just the odd one or two, nothing serious (  Wink ), I wouldn't want to go spiralling down again. I think that having a high acceptance ratio should give you the courage to have a go at something different, after all, with that many successful acceptances, you've probably earned a go. I want to try and keep my acceptance rate above 80%, so if it drops, its back to the tried and tested side-shot formula for a while until it recovers. Trying the boundaries of acceptance, just occasionally, every now and then should be encouraged, I think. How else will you develop as a photographer?

Best regards,

Jim

I don't care what my acceptance ratio is, & I don't think a 98% acceptance ratio is something to be proud of. If I have an interesting photo & want to share it I upload it. I got photos accepted of which I never thought they would make it & vice versa. It not only depends on the photo itself but also on who you are & who screens your pic--at least in some cases.

Still there, primarily due to the fact that I have been in Greece for the last fortnight and so have uploaded nothing  wink .

Scared to upload now as it can only be downhill from here  biggrin .

Mine is at 64% at the moment.
I don't really consider it that important (rarely do I get close to the 40 uploads I have) so sometimes I prefer to take some "risk" and upload somewhat different views.
The rejection reasons? motiv, blurry, dark, category..... Smile

That's quite a statement Thomas. I'm sure there are many that would like to say "prove it".

Well, some people do have a problem with precision. It is always easier to hit a target with a shotgun isn't it? But you can never hit just the bullseye with one can you?

Based on your 50 most recently screened photos: Accepted: 49 Rejected: 1
Acceptance Ratio: 98% Photos in DB: 978 In upload queue: 4
Photos allowed in upload queue: 70 Photo uploads available: 66 Why?

The screeners have "admitted" this fact on more than one occasion. They are not machines, you know.

If you want some proof, how about appealed (and accepted) photos?

Edit: I'm not saying I disapprove of the fact that screeners *sometimes* see photos differently, I'm just saying that it does happen on occasion.

Show us a thread where a screener has admitted that they screen pictures based on who the photog is....

If you want some proof, how about appealed (and accepted) photos?

So if I show you appealed and rejected shots of mine, or say Peter Unmuth, or TZ will you change your opinion?

Because it happens, all the time.

The bottom line is people change their tune to fit whatever point they are trying to make. Several users of this forum have ripped the screening team saying they give people like Sam Chui special favors, yet no one says a word when said photog gets a ban, right? Because that doesn't support the point you are trying to make.

Clickhappy,

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say, or perhaps I was not clear.

I never meant to say that screeners screen based on WHO took the photo. What I meant is that while one screener might reject a questionable shot, another might accept it, in some cases. This really only applies to borderline cases - where the shot is not exceptional but it does not have any glaring flaws.

My apologies for the confusion.

Hey guys sorry to sound naïve. How do I find my acceptance and rejection ratings? I asked in another discussion and was never able to find it, haha and then it got archived. At least I think it did because I can't find it under MY TOPICS. I know I can go to the MYPHOTOS page and then there's all those options but I have no idea how to get the actual percentage.
Thanks guys.

Well, I don't have 50 in the DB but since I got my 350D, I was at 100% accepted but now I'm back to good old 0% acceptance. Of course, that is no real surprise.  Yeah sure
