Your Preferred Angle

Tue Aug 30, 2005 4:21 pm

Which is your favourite/suggested angle to take shot from in order to get some original pics ?

I like to tilt my camera to +/- 5 degrees CW. My favorite angle. But somehow it never gets accepted.  Wink

I like to catch aircraft in flight if possible, but preferably with something in the background, purely because it looks more interesting.

The exception is fighter aircraft - I like all those air display closeups during steep turns.

Like Eduard, I'm also prone to a clockwise tilt. If there's one thing I envy Nikon users, it's a viewfinder grid  Sad

LOL.. the 10D has the row of focus points and it is real easy to unconciously align them with the fuselage of the subject.. makes for some serious angle corrections!!!

Chris,

The 300D is similar, but with small squares forming a cross. I don't find it easy to use as a level reference at all. I like the solution my old Nikkormat FTN has - two small bars either side of the viewfinder; it's not intrusive and it works perfectly.

To be honest that is the last thing on my mind when shooting, ok not quite, but I would be more concerned about my exposure, motive and recreating that shot that I have in my mind just when your eye catches that moment, you know you've just spotted that shot. Like this one the other day at Weston. I was driving off when my eye caught the Spitfire in the hanger and I knew I had what I wnated. Took a few photos but wasn't quite getting what I really wanted till I stuck on my 300 LIS with the 1.4 TC and then looking though my view finder I had it. Not sure if it's a.net worthy, it's in the queue anyway, but I love it. To me levelling and can come later in PS. The wonders of digital!

If that shot isn't a.net worthy, then maybe it's better to shut this whole site down. Beautiful.  cloudnine

Well I use the grid in my D70, but it doesn't stop me having to level 90% of the shots I take (including non aviation ones!)

I use my left eye when I'm shooting, and I've often wondered if this is the cause of my problem. I've tried using my right eye, but I find it very uncomfortable.

I recognised it, don't worry  Smile

But most of the time I have to rotate my shots quite a bit

Try everything! Sometimes, the most dramatic shots come from the most unexpected angles.

I like the views down the fuselage. Causes for sharp and wonderful looking images.

I have this one in the queue at the moment:

Gotta agree with you Dom, the closer I seem to get, at that angle you've shown...well, magic things seem to happen! The overall sharpness factor is out of this world!
