A380 Belly-View - Does It Stand A Chance?

Tue Aug 30, 2005 11:16 pm

Hello everyone,

this is one of the (few) better pictures I took of the mighty A380 during his visit to Hamburg.

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/big/ready/P8271489.jpg

As far as I know belly-views are not that popular here on ANet, so my question is: Does it stand a chance of being accepted?

Your opinions would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance! Big grin

Best Regards,
Fabian/PositiveClimb

Hi Fabian,
technically it looks fine to me.
My personal opinion is that it´s a great shot and i expect to meet it again somewhere among the Top of the last 24/48 pictures.

best regards,

Denis

I like it.. You beautifully see the enormous wingsize of the A380.
The 2 clouds are making it interested instead of a boring blue sky.

Thanks for all your comments, guys!

As I already said in another thread most of the photos I took of the A380 were rather dark and 'flat' because of being backlit, therefore I was really happy when I saw that this one was properly exposed and of good quality...

So maybe one of the screeners could say a word or two about uploading this pic?!

Would be real nice! (of course, all other comments are also welcome!!!)

If I came across this shot I would leave it for Johan. I would reject it, but I know others would like it, and it would probably get the hits, so I would defer to the boss.

Hi Royal, thanks for your comment!

Can I ask on why you would reject it? Because of the motiv (belly-wise  Wink ) or is the photo lacking in other issues?

Just want to see if I can improve it!

Thanks again!

I wanted to clarify my remarks.

Fabian - the shot is fine, but to my eye it looks odd, like fitting a square peg in a round hole.

But that is my opinion. "Belly shots" are always welcome, assuming they meet the other criteria needed to successfully upload a picture here.

Even though I think the photo looks awkward I am part of a large team, and my opinion is only one amongst 30 screeners.

The shot has a good chance of making it, and I am sure if it did it would be very popular!

Good luck.

I know where Royal is coming from. I think it's the proportions of the aircraft - they don't lend themselves easily to a 3:2 frame, with all that space off to the sides.

That being said, I think it's interesting enough to be in the DB.

I agree with Royal. We encourage new angles, and those belly views can be very effective.

I have my concerns with this one (like Royal). I think it needs to be bang-on square to the frame to be a *great* shot. I would ensure several screeners got to see it before an accept/reject. Ultimately it may be for Johan to decide where to go.

I imagine that given your contraints at the event, you have done an excellent job of capturing an unusual angle.

Hi again,
i thought about Royals and James comments, maybe you could try an aspect ratio of 4:3 and some real tight cropping, this could kill some wasted space on the sides.

Hey guys,

sorry to bring this up again, but somehow I am obsessed with this photo  Wink ...

I think I know where you are coming from regarding the proportions.

So I did what Denis proposed and resized the photo to get rid of the dead space on the sides...

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/big/ready/P8271489_fourthirds.jpg

What do you think, does it look better this way?

Thanks for your help!

Best Regards,
Fabian/PositiveClimb

P.S.: Screeners, don't be afraid, I won't leave them both in the queue!  Wink

Fabian,
i´d say, it certainly does look better, let´s see how Royal likes it.

Hi Denis,

thanks for your reply!

Yes, I'm really interested in hearing what the screeners think about the new crop  scratchchin

By the way: Lukas, great shot!

That wing size is incredible! The wings dwarf the rest of the plane from that angle.

I saw your other thread with these Hamburg photos. I have to say that although this shot is incredibly striking, I preferred the third one in that list, where the plane was shot from underneath but was coming more at you. Now I can't find the discussion but you should definitely submit that.

Just my two cents.
