3Mp Point And Shoot Camera Uploads

Fri Sep 23, 2005 12:22 am

Just a "you can do it" message for all those out there without the latest & greatest digital SLRs.

Using my 3 megapixel Canon Powershot A70 while on walkabout in New York a few weeks ago I snapped these (amongst others) which were added in the past few days.

I was pleased with how these worked out, especially the helicopter at full zoom and even then only about three-quarter frame. It just goes to show you really can get pics added here with modest relatively low cost equipment.

Regards,
Dean / JT

Glenn,

Probably so you can take pics of things when they're moving.  Smile

The A70 copes fine as long as they stay still...and you can get close enough!

Cheers,
Dean / JT

I started with a 2 MP Olympus too, then got a 3 MP Fuji. They can be successful, especially upclose. It's getting tougher, but still not impossible. Can't wait for the day that the first mobile phone picture gets accepted  Smile .

This is taken with a 2 MP Olympus:

I've got about 400 shots on here taken with a 3.1MP Kodak, but Adam's point still stands. I didn't have any actions shots (other then taxi shots) until I upgraded to a 5MP point and shoot.

Try taking photos like that at most active aiports without special access. Good luck.

I saw the same Concorde, but it was cloudy that day and I didn't manage to fill 90% of the frame with the plane. I'm not sure, but don't think the current A.net formula allows for less than 90% aircraft coverage on a cloudy day.

All these were taken with a 3.2 mp Olympus C-740. Note the different lighting conditions and locations. Except for the Lancaster shot all were taken in standard spotting locations outside the airport perimeter.

Of course you have to work pretty hard at the editing stage to get photos uploadable, which is why you won't ever find me in the daily list of top uploaders. And even so I've had plenty of rejections. But impossible it certainly isn't.

My first 16 photos in the database were taken with a 4mp Olympus C-750. None of them are of moving aircraft (except one that is taxiing and a few wing views).  Smile

Sure, it's possible to get photos accepted with p&s cameras, but they are very limiting.
