WTF?! Poster Sizes....

Wed Oct 05, 2005 1:07 am

I made two 50x75 cm posters out of my shots. Today I went all around the city to find a frame but it turns out the only size available is 50x70 cm. Did anybody ever have the same problem? The standard poster size is 50x75 and the standard frame size 50x70 ... uhm hello???  gnasher  Is there even a way to get a frame at 50x75? It has to be that size cause I can't crop these pictures down by hand. I have to say that is the most ridiculous problem I've ever come across and still can't believe it...

I actually have a 50x70 cm frame sitting in my room, still wrapped. I bought it a while back because I got it really cheap at IKEA. Anyways, I still haven't printed out a poster of one of my photos yet, since I really can't decide which one I want, which actually sounds pretty ridiculous. No that I hear your type of trouble I'm kinda glad I got the frame before the poster and not the other way around. You could always get a frame one size larger and make a passepartout.

Cheers,

Lukas

You might be able to trim the poster to fit the frame.

I've one large one and had to trip the print to fit. Good room left and right so this was not a problem.

I'll go and check how much a custom-built frame is.
Gary, unfortunately I can't trim the picture anymore cause I've already set a frame around it when I edited it. It's basically ready to go into the frame. I can't make a passepartout of it either cause it would become too large.

Thanks for the input so far.

Keepin it on topic..

I like to print a lot of my pictures in 8x12inches format. Does anyone know some online stores where cheap (under 25 bucks) 8x12 frames can be found?

Thanks,

Adam

if i understand right, you added a boarder round the photo before you got it printed, so cant you cut off the whole boarder and use the back of the paper that was already in the photo frame as a boarder. not ideal i know but it would get it framed? i normally buy a print, get the frame the next size up and use the paper that comes with the frame as a boarder, couple of bits of masking tape the top corners of the photo stop it from slipping down

also can someone tell me what a passepartout is...

Surely you are going to mat it right? Have a standard size mat cut to fit a larger frame, then just have the mat cut to fit.

Theoretically, that would work but I put the border there for a reason cause the picture has a caption on the bottom which is inside the border. I can't take the next size available cause that would be 70x100 and unfortunately too large for the wall.  Sad
