I don't like those ebay deals. First of all you can get the D70 kit with the good 18-70 ED for $1100. The 70-300G is crap. It's a $100 lens. I bought the kit for $1100 and bought two good telephoto lenses. You can do ok with the G but it frustrated me. I like the 80-200 2.8 much better. Sure it's a lot more money but it's a much better lens.

let's add it up:

Nikon D70s body --- $899.95
Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S --- $509.95
Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF --- $169.95
Hitachi Microdrive 3K4 digital media --- $289.95
USB Compact Flash Card Reader --- $19.95
Heavy Duty Aluminum Hard Case w/Dividers --- $39.95
Deluxe All Weather Proof Carrying Case --- $19.95
Deluxe Video & Photo Tripod --- $29.95
Professional 3 Pc. Lens Cleaning Kit --- $9.95

-----
= $1989.55

Give or take $200 - $300 looks like it could be a not-so-bad deal. I have the 18-70mm and I use it for close in shots and cockpit shots. I know I couldn't get that close with the 24mm.

If you mean the 70-200 f/2.8 VR, then yes, it's one of the best lenses out there. I'm a very happy owner of one.

The 80-200 is the predecessor, sans VR. Also a very good lens.
