Spotting At Tokyo/NRT

Fri Oct 14, 2005 4:00 pm

Hi eveybody!

At the beginning of November I'll be in Tokyo for a few days. Unfortunately I will hardly have any time to dedicate an entire day or two to spotting (as much as I'd be tempted to do so...), but at least I want to try and get to the airport in Narita an hour or two earlier than my flight would require to maybe do some spotting before departure. So here are my questions now:

Is spotting possible at NRT from somehwere inside Terminal 2 (I'll be flying on LH)? If so where are the good spots? Are they still in the public area of the airport? How do I get there? For my purpose they will have to be rechable by foot... Any photo-opportunity while already in the waiting-area at the departure-gates? Any other things I should know about spotting at NRT (dos? don'ts?)?

Thank you very much for your help. It is highly appreciated!

Best regards from Munich,
Michael

Hi Michael,

spotting at NRT is possible. It is one of my favorite airports worldwide.
Check out this website. There you got every information you need.

Have fun in Japan. I just came back from Tokyo the day before yesterday. I had a lot of very delicious sushi.  Smile

Ciao, Mario

you can spot at the viewing deck in terminal 2, there are 2 decks, one that looks over the ANA dock and the other over JAL. very easy to find and well sign posted with holes for you to stick your lens through, like Mario, it's one of my favourite airports, be one airport that i rate highly as spotter friendly!

enjoy Narita, it's a fantastic airport, all the other locations away from the airport are quite far and you'll need transport to get to them. there is a great sushi restaurant on the floor above checkin at T2 that does a great nigiri sushi!

I'll back Monty up on the Sushi restaurant in T2 its awesome and has a great view.
You can hop on the courtesy bus that runs to the Marroad and walk to Sakura No Yama park to get some cool rwy end shots.
A top airport with heaps of 74 traffic and if the weather is bad its an even better place to shoot.

T2 Observation Deck and within the terminal in the morning, you will be facing east, so lighting won't be the best.
Both T1 & T2 have Observation Decks that open at 0700.
