I'm definitely loving this shot, and I don't see anything wrong with it. Of course that's me.

Cheers,

Hi Mark,

nice shot, I like it as well. However I had a similar shot rejected for exposure. It seems a little blown out on the right.

I think this one is much better, no distractions this time with a little more detail visible on the nose.
BTW, loved the ANA shot, superb picture.

Thanks Ivan,
I didn't expect it to be as popular as it was. Truth is I nearly didn't upload it I was expecting a rejection.
Do you think I should risk this 777 in the queue??.

Regards

You have to take some risk  Smile I would upload the 777, what's the worst that can happen? As you know, it's not the end of the world if you get a rejection. I'd say go ahead and upload and see what happens in about a week. Best of luck.

I am glad to hear you are uploading this shot. I love the massive blades and the exhaust as well. Take a chance, I don't think it will be rejected for backlit. I have had some head-ons like this where I felt they might be too dark on the back side, but they had no problem getting in. Good luck.

What a pic!!  thumbsup
The before washed-out parts now look much better!!

I just love semi-backlit shots.
They often give you a better (if edited in the right manner) feel for the geometry of an aircraft. Reflections on the shadow-side showing the curvatures and all that.
Not to mention the ripples in the exhaust gases!! Mmmmm.....,yummy!!  Smile
In thrust I trust.

I think shots should be considered in all cases regardless of lighting direction. If a backlit shot looks good and the overall composition and exposure are about right then there should be no grounds for rejection on that element alone.

Good luck with this shot, I think it's dramatic angle with lighting to match.

That is 100% precisely our policy. There is no such thing as a "badbacklit" rejection or any reason why backlighting alone is any reason for a rejection. If the quality is sub-standard, it'll be rejected. That's all.

I can't imagine that 2nd shot getting rejected - it's absolutely stunning! Nice one.

Mark can i ask what changes you made to the second one? Was it a contrast adjustment and/or curves/levels?

Hi Colin,

The original was RAW, on the first I had increased the exposure on the RAW conversion slightly to try an illuminate the left hand side of the image but on the second I left the exposure as captured. The second had less "Shadow & Highlight" which I used to brighten up the undercarriage. Apart from that a tiny bit of contrast added to make the left hand side of the image less flat looking. Also a bit of USM thrown in for good measure.
