AMS: A Spot Has Gone

Fri Nov 11, 2005 3:10 pm

While driving by yesterday I notice that another spot is closed: they are building a big fence to make it inaccessible. (Forgive the plug)

It's along the Kaagbaan south of the employee parking.

Bugger... I didn't go there often, but I suppose this is one of the spots where cars were dumped by the side of the road to spot. People parking there were sent away all the time. Logical, considering they parked by the side of a road where big 18-wheelers drive by at 60 km/h every 30 seconds.
I guess more of these spots where they had 'car-problems' will be fenced up.
Perhaps I shouldn't point any fingers (and this is just my own perception/opinion), but it's mostly those who refused to walk/cycle a little bit that caused this measure to be taken. Why can't people just park their car at McDonalds 200m away and walk or cycle to hard-to-reach spotting locations?  grumpy
Oh well...

Shame!

I also didn't go there often, but when the sun is low in the west it can (could) be a nice spot.

I think so... You can still spot the approaches from the bicycle path, you just can't look on to the runway anymore.

Johan you can still take those shots if you just stand by the side of the road. I've been to the airport a couple of times since they anounced the new policy and have had absolutely no problems, and I am always in non-official spots.
The new policy is about parking, so please everyone, think about where you park.

Yes indeed they fenced off the little 'dike' along parking 'p30'...as i saw this also today. Real shame but i sort of saw it coming as last week i was standing there and immediately the police told me to leave...I said 'i'm not aloud to be here?' they said no without explaining. Real shame...hope we wont loose any other places!

cheers

Which is one and the same. Those plans were announced because of spotters causing dangerous situations by blocking traffic with their vehicles due to parking in places where it's not appropriate.

Is more of us were just sensible and didn't stop their car in the middle of the road whenever they see an aircraft such measures would not be needed.

Even if it's not an often used spot, it's still sad to see a spot go, just because of the precedent it sets.

I hope they don't ban the Polderbaan spots. I love standing where the planes take-off. But there is no parking there. Any news on that?
