I Might Be Getting Crazy...

Sat Nov 19, 2005 7:53 pm

Hi. I had this one previously rejected, for NAO angle. OK, it was true, but now, I really don't get it. There are number of lightpoles and buildings in the background that show me that this picture is level. The ground seems slopy, but the background is perfectly straight!

What am I getting wrong here?

Here's what I used to make it angled out:

Thanks I appreciate your help...

Phillipe,

Strange. However, take a look at the building on the right of the frame. The verticals definitely aren't, er, vertical.

Perhaps those lightpoles are wonky?

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

Thanks James,

What should I do now?

Any screener care to have a look? Thanks

I found my shots from here really tricky to edit too Phil.

James is right, none of the verticals are actually verticals. The light poles aren't "straight" at that location, it just makes it 10 times worse!

Don't bang your head against the wall too much.

Philippe,

By only looking at your photo, you can see it leans to the left... 0,4°cw will make it level.

Keep in mind that the photoshop level tool isn't the ultimative thing to trust, screeners don't use it either. Just because according to the measure tool a photo seems level it doesn't mean it's right, screeners judge by looking at it.

It's important to level the photo so that it LOOKS level, not that verticals seem level.

cheers,
Florian

If and when you upload again, just drop a not to the screener... tell them why it was rejected and how you corrected it... it should work if you turn it like what Florian has said,

Hope that helps,

Grant

Phil - with the JAL B747F, it is a slightly dull (as in lacking in contrast, good light) photo. The other photos you had on your site were much better. T.

Why do screeners look at a picture if it is level or not???Who care's !!!!!!!I look at the pictures for the planes, not for some buildings in the background.

We care...

It's about the whole package. The picture shows an airplane and its surroundings and it should represent what it looked like when the photo was taken. For example, a control tower is not built like the tower of Pisa.

We care...

Agreed, but for a 0.004° error, I think it's a bit much... The left part looks level, and the right one not. I reuploaded it now with leveled to the right part. Will I get it rejected because the left part is not perfectly leveled?

There are tons of pictures on a.net that are completely unleveled. OK, the standards have improved but it's the first time I disargee with a rejection of one of my pics...

You're still talking about the Sky shot, right?

Quoting PipoA380 (Reply 12):
but for a 0.004° error

...mmkay... Who's talking about 0.004 degrees? Read Florians post again, would you please? I'm a local AMS photographer and it's quite obvious that the picture is not level. It needs CW rotation, 0.5 I think. It actually became more clear when you drew the red lines in.
Have you tried it yet?

I am. 0.4° according to Florian. It's just a bit of Irony

Yes. Here it is.

Now the light poles seem to be a bit... unleveled...

Thx for your help

Lightpoles are a last resort when it comes to levelling, but don't use them if you have other references. A building is built with care, a lightpost is not. Very few poles are actually straight up. They don't need to be anyway, as long as the light is 'up there'.
