Can Anyone Identify This 747?

Tue Dec 20, 2005 3:14 am

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could identify this 747?

http://timgoodwin.myphotoalbum.com/v...bumName=album18&id=unidentified747

It was heading west over DSA this afternoon towards Pole Hill from the North Sea. Presumably it must have come from some where in the Netherlands or Germany.

Regards,

Tim.

Hi Tim.

An Atlas Air 742, just not the normal paint scheme.

Probably a REACH Flight as in USAF civilian Charter flight that the older Atlas Air 747f are doing a lot of at the moment!

Im no expert but isn't that atlas 742 in the remnants of polar air cargo colors. I think that Atlas transferred a bunch of these aircraft to their fleet from their sister company after her pilots went on strike. Ive seen similar ones on the Atlas/Polar ramp at JFK.

There is at least 1 744F in those colours as well, I photographed it in lousy weather at SYD on Nov20

It was probably PAC611 - N506MC en route to PIK. It had no trail passing N of Manchester. (Thanks to MANTMA_overflights on yahoo)

Thanks guys,

I was starking to think we'd got this one wrapped up as I read down, but it would appear not to be so clear cut after all.

Andrew, what time was that passing North of Manchester? My camera shows that shot as being taken at 13:37 and it was flying GOLES - POLE HILL on route UB105. At the same time it was racing a United 744 (in the new colours) on the same route.

Tim.

Tim

My camera has it at 13:39 which is a couple of minutes slow against the computer clock which checks with the world clock.

On the MANTMA group there are no other PAC aircraft around at that time and this one was crossing the east coast at around 13:27

Can't be TF-ARY, as this bird is now flying for AirBridge Cargo in their full colours.

Sorry to be a pest, but this is something that fascinates me. Below is the UA 744 in the new colours that followed the Atlas 742 linked to above. Again, it passed overhead about 13:40, so I'm guessing will have been something like 11:00 off AMS or FRA. Does anyone have any idea as to what it is?

Also, is it uploadable - are contrail shots still allowed and if so is it good enough? It's something I've never attempted before.

Regards,

Tim.

Edit: Shot was taken on Monday 19th.

According to an ACARS log on that day, the only UA B747 at around that time, in fact all day, was UA917. (Thanks to MANTMA-overflights)

N198UA (B747 UAL) 20051219 1356 UA0917 (Frankfurt/Main-Washington/Dulles Intl)

Yes, contrail shots are allowed. Here's one of mine (well, my only one on a.net)

Try this for the United 744 does this help? As it was the only one in your local Area ore so my mate who is not a Spotter ore a Photographer said.

Spooky that! We still get a UA 744 into LHR even though it was supposed to have stopped and Changed into a 777.

Thanks very much guys. It must be straight out of the paint shop, the last shot of it in the database was in November and it was still in the old grey.

The UA 747 looks like it is in the old colours to me, you can almost make out the red line between the grey top and the blue bottom

Could well be..... the new livery doesn't appear to have the white stripe along the bottom of the fuselage.
