Hi.
I have been at Tenerife for three months back in 2003. Have been at both TFN and TFS but without a car you won't have big chances to reach good spots. Send me a mail via the profile and I can send you a map with spots for both airports. Had only one short meeting with police at TFS and they were very polite (we spoke in Spanish) and told where I'm not allowed to spot.

As Georg has said, you will need some kind of transport to get to the best places at both airports. Spotting & photography from both terminals is pretty much useless.

If you have google earth, then here are some links to where I found to be good spots:

Tenerife North: Good views of landing traffic on Rwy 30. It's on a hill.

Tenerife South: Follow the road back North to see where to leave the motorway. From this spot, a dirt track runs parallel to the runway. It's the grey track to the South of the tarmac perimeter road.

Rwy 08 appears to be most in use at Tenerife South. I never got round to finding a good spot at that end last time I was there. However, a geocache has recently appeared at the 08 end of the runway.

Airport - Tenerife Sur

Access road to cache site

It looks like there might be some good approach shots of landing traffic from both the North and South of the centreline from around here. Looking at the photographs from the geocache website, it looks like open land where you can walk around to find a good place.

As the cache page says, Tuesday's and Friday's are the busiest.

Hope some of that is of use to you.

Hi Jason,

If you come out of the terminal at TFS and turn either left or right, there are opportunities to see stuff on the ramp, you'll need a focal length of about 200-300mm.

To get around the far side of the airfield, come out of the terminal and turn right, up a ramp and then take a road that bears right down towards the cargo terminal and a checkpoint. If you head down here, there is a path on the hillside to the left, which you can follow all around the perimeter fence if you wish - be warned though it's miles through desert and scrub - take a drink as there's nothing at all there!

Never had any trouble from the Police at all in Spain.

Regards,

Tim.
