Can This Be Improved? Help Requested

Mon Jan 09, 2006 5:29 pm

Dear All,

The following picture was rejected for "bad quality". Can anyone give me some hints to improve it (if it is possible at all)?

Thanks and best regards,

Walter

You can try the unsharp mask, but I don't think it will get accepted.
The airplane is just a little bit out of focus.

Thanks for your comments, Martin 21!

I tried to do some USM sharpening, but I guess you are correct... it is slightly out of focus ;-(

I have another one which has been rejected for being soft at the nose section:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...N_20050902_IMG_2196_WVB_1200px.jpg

I have tried to sharpen it as well, but it got rejected a second time (same reason).

Best regards,

Walter

rejected for being soft

Hi Walter,
Reduce the image size with a width of 1000px. It MAY hide the softness...

Add me to the list of confused people:

I have a higher resolution version I can work with if necessary but I guess my problems are a little more critical. I can't even get anything beyond 'our standards are very high' in the rejection message.

Dont get confused...Here's a simple resolution...Upload in lower image resolution for easy acceptance...Most people here upload at 1000px or 1024px wide. I'm sure your photo will be accepted after the size reduction from 1600px wide to 1000px wide...

Dear All,

I just got another reject for the following shot:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...ingenAFB_20051014_WVB_IMG_3549.jpg

The comment was "color" and "grainy". Can anybody give me some hints to improve this? The weather on that day was sunny, but there was a kind of haze through the valley. It was shot from a nearby mountain, so no glass (except for the tele) in between...

Thanks and regards,

Walter

There is a lot of blue in the shadows. Maybe when you get it out you are also get rit of the gain. I think you might get it accepted, the quality is good enough.

Read through this. It offers excellent advice on several sharpening techniques. If you haven't got the time, at least read parts II and III. It offers the best advice on sharpening I've seen so far.

There's 21 articles in all, 5 about sharpening.

This is great advise, thanks for pointing this out! I have bookmarked this site and I will read (and study) all these topics. That will certainly help for improving my outputs!

Dear All,

I had another rejection recently:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...TNP_20051215_CRW_3749_RT16_WVB.jpg

The quality is indeed not very good (and I accept the screener comments), but I thought to give it a try since the aircraft - in this remarkable color scheme - was about to be retired (so, no other opportunities to make better pictures  Sad )

The Fly-out ceremony (at Hopsten AFB, Germany) was really on a bad-weather day and flying activity only started at around sunset... Even if the quality is not good enough for A.net, I would like to improve this picture as much as possible for my own records, so all advise is welcome! It was indeed getting rather dark, but I tried to keep the grain low with a low as possible ISO setting.

PS: This is another one from my own site:
http://walter2219.fotopic.net/p23911622.html
http://walter2219.fotopic.net/p23992153.html
Could these be improved as well?

Best regards,

Walter

Hi Walter,
The airport overview should be a real winner after post processing. Send me the original and I would be glad to help ya out.
