Help With Quality And Crop, Please!

Sun Jan 15, 2006 6:22 pm

Hi everybody again.

From my first ever photosession I have some fond memories of this aircraft, though it was very difficult to capture, being all white and side lit and April sun shining strongly and dull colors around in early Spring.

And also I am very unsure how to position the fuselage in the frame. Lower?

Will this try make the cut:

Thanks in advance
Frippe

I think that it will be rejected on bad center indeed. Also check the colors... if you need some help with them let me know.

Hi Martin,
with such a kind invitation I have just sent to Your e-mail this file and another frame in the series, direct from camera, if You will have time to give some suggestions as how to proceed with colors and cropping.
Thanks for any kind of help,
Frippe

Thanks a lot, Martin, for helping me with a better version, now uploaded:

What do You all say, better isn't it?
Humbly I will only ask about the centering. Will screeners accept this, or will they see a lot of empty space above the fuselage?

Should I change instead to a later frame, also processed by Martin:

Martin suggested it is "nice to see the runway" and didn't crop at all.
But will screeners want a tighter crop, not to deem it DISTANCE?

Thanks again for any suggestions,
Frippe

PS
You are right, Martin. At Skavsta Airport we are lucky to be able to take photos from a small hill near the threshold of rwy 26. No need for ladders there.

Hi again Frippe.

I would agree with Martin that your original crop would be rejected for 'centre', though it must be said that there appears to be a wide variety in what will be accepted if you look closely at the database. Certainly to my eye the plane is too high in the frame.

I also agree with Martin that there is a colour cast to your shot. Generally I think his edit produces a better image, as I too like the slightly wider crop. However, I feel this one may have slight issues too - for example, the nose looks slightly soft in this version. I would also make a preference for this angle, rather than the plane going away from you in No. 360.

If you want to compare with another edit feel free to get in touch again.

All the best.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that you take a chance on which screener you get and what their personal preferences are.
My personal opinion is that Frippe's first picture is well centred while being not bright enough while his second is a much better brightness but too low in the frame. I personally prefer to look at the second pic.

I've had a good look through a.net and there are differences, sometimes massive ones in what the screeners deem to be acceptable or not.

Interestingly, I cannot find any input from screeners in these forums. I'm sure it's probably there, I just can't find it.
