Thoughts On My First Attempt At A Cockpit Shot

Mon Jan 16, 2006 2:54 pm

N958AT - AirTran B712

The obvious weak point here is the fact that the pilots are still sitting in their seats, but after a 20 minute ground stop in RDU and another 15 minutes getting vectored around Atlanta because of a runway switch on their last flight of the day, I didn't have the heart to ask the kind crew to delay their trip home any further. Better luck on that front next time, I suppose. I did my best to balance the flash exposure with the ambient to bring up the detail in the CRTs, although that meant a slower shutter speed and therefore less overall sharpness, I prefer being able to see some of what the pilots are looking at when flying this machine. I do have a sharper shot, but there is almost no CRT detail, and having 6 black squares didn't look very good to me. I also like the ramp detail out the windows. I'd love to hear your feedback on this shot, so please feel free to post anything, positive or negative.

Bad hand on the left? Looks a touch blurry?
Quite good composition and you don't have those flash reflections in the CRTs, well done. Your heading in the right direction and good detail and obstuctions like hands will improve your shots. Keep it up and I look forward to seeing your improved shots in future.

Cheers,
