Sat Feb 18, 2006 3:19 pm

I've just noticed that Peter Unmuth (aka Charlie Stoneshit)  Wink is missing from the "About Us" page... Has he been sacked?

Unfortunately, he must've been stripped of his title.

Really?

I thought no photo added to this site was "unmuth" proof?

I noticed this too recently.

Here's a really radical suggestion - maybe he simply decided that he didn't want to screen any more?

Peter decided to leave his screening position, he was not sacked our forced to leave by anyone.

Enough said, and please keep this civil.

He's currently on the Airteamimages (I think that's a recent thing) roster so it could be that he felt he needed to balance his commitments.

How does a pair of shots like those above get accepted??? Even with the additional tail in the bottom of the frame, how is it not bad double? And how is it in good taste to upload both?

Both would have gotten bad motive if I had uploaded one of them.

I think they're both nice shots. The way he's got around a double rejection is because they are uploaded under a different reg. I wouldn't have bothered uploading two so similar, I have to admit.

So looks as though the screening time will be going up then  Wink

Funny how nearly everyone thinks the worse, but in terms of running the site I'm sure he will be missed when it takes longer to get a shot accepted.

Good luck for the future Peter, enjoy your "retirement".

I don't mind how long it takes for my photos to be screened. It would be nice if the screening is a bit faster but I understand the screeners have a lot of photos. As long as my photos are screened, it's fine by me. I even volunteered to be a screener but I never got a reply after I sent airliners.net a message. I don't know what the criteria are for becoming a screener, I couldn't find them on the site.

Is there a page with info about the criteria to become a screener? I'm just asking here.

Good luck to Peter by the way  Smile

Regards,

Roger

Enjoy your time over at ATI, Peter.

Now you guys should look out for 5 new screeners to replace him, he did an awful amount of work as far as I know.  Wink

Yes some people seem to forget that Peter put in countless hours for the site. He will be surely missed, although he has now joined my other crew too Smile

Screeners are now invited to join the crew instead of the open application we used to have. When screening we are constantly on the lookout for potential candidates. When the time comes that we are looking to get new people on board some people will recieve an email.

You bet his work will be missed... To give you some perspective: I've been a screener for 8 months, I screen about 100 shots a day and at this rate it would take me 21 years of screening too surpass him.

Replacing Peter will be very very tough. His output was instrumental in keeping pictures flowing to a.net. He has my thanks for his tremendous work, and I am sure the thanks of many others here.

If the loss of Peter is so devastating for the screening team, and if he did five times the work of the average screener . . . then perhaps a.net should be looking for more screeners??? There is no mention of that anywhere that I've seen anyway...

I know I offered to donate my time a while back to be a screener, but now with my acceptance ratio hovering around 30% I'd have a better chance at winning the Powerball tonight.

Any crew care to comment on the possibility of bringing on more screeners?

Does that mean that you base your decision on contacting a photographer to invite him to become a screener on the shots he uploads to A.net?
I guess that makes sense in a certain way but speaking for myself I'd say I'd be a far better screener then uploader (about the same thing as good coaches in sports that were not real good players themselves); I guess I'm not objective enough when it comes to my own photos  Yeah sure
But I like to look at tons of photos per day and I claim to have a good eye for things that are wrong in a shot.
So far as to my application for the screeners job (I've still some free time to spend  Wink )

If this is true, and I have no reason to believe that it is not, then I should take back anything I have said or could be inferred about the man.

That is not a good news. Peter "accounted" for almost 50% of all screenings. Without him I'm affraid soon a waiting time will reach 4 weeks.

It seems more people want an answer to this question.

There are no hard and fast rules as to who can become a screener. When looking for prospective candidates there are some things that can work in someone's favor.

-A high acceptance ratio, say something above 70%.
-Good editing skills, this usually coincides with the above, but not in all cases
-A varied portfolio of a.net shots
-Helpful and constructive advice given in the forum
-The ability to work in a team
-Doing all these things over an extended period

We do notice all of these things and besides the people who get picked this time we have a list of people who will be considered again in the future.

Cheers

Not for the time being.

Summary: I decided to quit screening because i felt the fun was gone. Very simple. And if the fun is gone why spend hours for others when i can do thing with my time which are much more fun. Anyway i dont think my demission is that important that a thread about it is created. People come people go, be it on the screening side or on the photographers side. No big deal.
