What Wide Angle/standard Zoom Lenses Do You Use?

Sun Feb 19, 2006 7:03 am

Hi all,

I currently have a Sigma EX 24-70 but I could do with something wider especially with the 1.6 DSLR crop factor; mainly for non-av use but ocasionally for aviation.

Just wondering what wide angle/standard zoom lenses you all use and if you are happy with it/would recommend it?

Cheers

Ben

Since you use a Canon, I think, you might look at the Canon 17-40 f/4 L lens. It will be fine for the aviation needs.

I use a Nikon and a 18-35 mm lens with that. Works good.

I currently use the 24-70 2.8 L and I'm very pleased with it. It's still wide enough with the 1.3 crop factor.
I'm still looking for a 15mm diagonal fisheye, though.  eyepopping

Sigma 18-35 DC lens is the one for me currently.

Looking to go wider in the near future.

17-40L user over here - And loving it!

IMO, one of the best lenses in terms of price vs. quality.
Love to shoot with a polarizer on it, excellent (non-av)-stuff.

I use the standard Canon 18-55 EFS lens that came with my 300D. Despite it's critics, I've had no problems at all with it.

Regards,

Tim.

Sigma 10-20, but I haven't really had a chance to put it to use yet so I can't tell you whether or not I recommend it, but let me just say I'm glad I didn't settle for 17mm! I can't wait to try it out on a few panels.

I have the 17-40L f/4 and the 18-55 kit lens. I mostly use the 17-40L though. If I do need the little bit extra mm's then I use my 50mm f/1.8

the Canon 17-40L is a good lens but for those of us that have to keep lens costs within the real world, I suggest either the Canon 17-85 IS USM, or the Sigma 17-35 2.8-4.

Hi Ben,

I use a EF17-40 f/4 L and EF24-70 f/2.8 L. Both excellent lenses and highly recommended.

Hej!

I can only confirm the other comments regarding the Canon EF 17-40L f/4 which I also find an excellent lens and I am 100% happy with it. However, I am looking for an addition to my lens-collection which is even wider and am seriously considering the Sigma EX 12-24. As I want to use the lens on both DSLR as well as analog SLR the Canon EF-S 10-22 is no option for me. Does anyone have experience with the Sigma 12-24? Can you recommend it?

Thanks for any info! Cheers,
Mike
