Let's Avoid These Kind Of Rejections Please!

Sat Mar 04, 2006 10:57 pm

I've uploaded the following picture:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/big/ready/n11fxLOWS180206z.jpg

and after being rejected for category I appealed after re-checking that the categories were correct.
The appeal was rejected for category as well.
Now as I'm quite trusty regarding the screeners I re-re-checked the categories and still have to say that they are all correct; to make it worse the same a/c was accepted a few weeks ago with the exact same categories selected.
To sum it up once more:
- it's quite obviously a helicopter
- it's owned by a company and does not belong in the military, warbird (no military marking!) or private (Flying Bulls is not a private owner!) category, hence airline or other
- paintscheme and picturing should be straightforward enough
- none of the additional categories applies

As I said before this exact same a/c was already accepted in the db with the same cats selected that I've checked.
So I'd really beseech the screeners to avoid such unnecessary rejections and if already such a picture is being appealed to put a note in the rejections mail as to what they believe was wrongly selected; that would avoid me and them a waste of time.

Thierry

Btw: the picture is now in the upload queue again, no changes made!

Did you enter it as Untitled? Seems simple enough.

"5. Untitled aircraft not operated by an airline or charter company, but owned by private persons, business companies, flying clubs, aircraft sale companies, broker companies, etc. will be listed as "Untitled". If you want to supply owner or operator details these shall be listed in the Remarks field."

Well the a/c was added EXACTLY as the the other 2 pix of it in the db; and those were accepted 2-3 weeks ago without any Untitled!
But thanks for putting my attention on this as I was not looking there for a possible bad_cat.
Now if that was the rejection reason (and I'm still waiting for a confirmation by screeners!) why was the first 2 pix accepted; and that would still let my thread stand as is because I'd like all out consistency here. I mean if we can't take the A.net database itself as a reference for our own uploads, there's something wrong in the system.  banghead

Doesn't that fall under the badinfo part though, instead of badcategory?

Hi Kas - My understanding is that the 'Info' relates to the information you select on the first page of the uploading process - i.e. place, registration, type of aircraft, airline etc. - effectively, that which the auto-complete function can generate. The categories relate to those check boxes on the second page of the upload, once the photo has been uploaded and you can see the thumbnail and the information/comment submitted.

Thierry - you have my sympathy. I got into trouble before by trusting what I saw with previously accepted uploads. The bottom line is that the auto complete function is not foolproof and for sure often there will be variations in the categories with which some aircraft have been successfully uploaded. But I do have sympathy with the database editors - going through all the photos to check for anomalies must be a nightmare and - as regards those categories - well, the less said the better. My hunch is that there is still confusion in some quarters - even amongst screeners - about some of these issues too.

I would agree with Jeff about the use of 'Untitled'. I would be interested to know what percentage of rejections are for category - it is still very difficult to fully understand all those criteria, even if you have been active on the site for a long time.

Hi Paul,

What you said is corect. However, when you fill in the auto-complete function, there is the "airliner" part.

If it isn't listed in the dropdown menu, and no markings are on the aircraft (but you do know the owner) it's like this:

- Untitled (blablabla)

So doesn't that fall under the info part then? It also comes before the 2nd uploadpage, which contains those boxes you have to check (which is the category part)

(if you know what I mean  Wink )

So if in fact you clicked the wrong category, instead of having to deal with rejecting the picture, resubmitting, having it be rejected again, why can't the screeners simply change the category??? At least make a quick note for the reason so you can change it and reupload yourself.

A screener answered that question not long ago in the suggestion post.

He told us, that if they were doing that, more and more people were going to say, "who cares about this information, the screener will correct it for me"

At least now we will check if everything is right in the information box.

MAYBE:
1: they should do this unaware, and just correct the information without telling anyone.
2: they can try this thing for a little while, to see how that goes.
3: they should ban someone temporally if he makes to many mistakes (and they think on purpose)

4: we should check the information more carefully next time, and If we are not sure, we ask it here in the forum?

This could be fixed easily, starting with us, if that doesn't help, maybe the system could change a little to prevent this from happening to much!

Screeners statements would be very much welcome on this matter...  yes

The queue is approaching the deadline for this picture now and i'd be happy to hear from any screener if I can leave the picture the way it is or if I should pull it from the queue since it won't be accepted anyway?  Confused

Yep, should be "Untitled (The Flying Bulls)" or whatever the operator seems to be  Wink. Quite straightforward... Possibly the screener ticked the wrong box.

Thanks for the reply Giovanni; as you say, it's quite straigthforward but as the same a/c was accepted recently without the Untitled I didn't add it either.
Consistency in that matter would be very much welcome as it only contributes to confusion on all sides otherwise.  confused

You are completely correct on this one Thierry, all I can say is that both photos must have slipped through. We all make mistakes I guess... I've sent an e-mail to the editors so the info on the accepted shots will be corrected asap.
