Long Exposure Night Time Departure Shots

Sun Mar 05, 2006 8:15 am

I would like to revisit this topic. Night Long Exposure - NOA_motiv? (by QantasA332 Dec 21 2005 in Aviation Photography)

This photo was rejected for motiv. I even included the aircraft information with the photo.

I am wondering, what does this photo need for acceptance, the moon? runway lights? the aircraft itself? The photos that have been accepted in the past are beautiful but there have only been a few since 2004.

Is there any way we can get an official opinion on this?

I can tell you now that a shot like that will get rejected. No one from the crew has ever given any idea on what is acceptable and what isn't. All I know is I have had one accepted over all the time I've been uploading here.

Basically with night shots its a lottery. If it gets in you win.

well, it could use a tighter crop, wayy too much dead space which would lead to a bad motive rejection.

Ok,

my personal opinion is that this photo somehow lacks a decent motive.

It´s just some red and white stripes in front of a dark background. The two shots in your quoted topic "have a story to tell" and and they don´t show coloured lines only, but also some parts of the airport, runway and other aircraft and have an appealing composition.

Not all of these kind of nightshots work out, like yours, while being good on the technical side it doesn´t really show us anything.

These Photos will always be bordercases in my opinion, hard to be accepted, as it´s hard to get a perfect shot which that "little something" it needs.

best regards,

Denis
