This One Look Okay?

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:29 pm

Hey,

Is this one acceptable to A.net as it is, if not could you give me some instructions on how to fix it? BTW: This would be the first pic of this plane in the db if it gets accepted.

The first one is too high in the frame. Re-center with the aircraft a bit lower. I would also crop a bit closer on the right.

To my eye, the shot is just a little too bright - probably fixable by adjusting the levels.

The fence probably rules out the second one.

The third one is backlit - no fix possible.

First one needs ccw rotation as well.

I would forget about the other two.

Can the sunset pic be saved? I really like it.

Thanks for the replies.

BTW: How is the quality on the first one?

Tim,
How do I rotate the pic in PS, when I go to rotate I see a purple background where the pic was. A little help please.

Depends on which version of photoshop you are using but a box should appear somewhere where you can enter the number of degrees the photo should be rotated. Refer to vertical objects like lightpoles or buildings, not runways as they can have a slope in reality.

I know how to rotate but the sides turn white where the image was. Its hard to explain. lets say You have a White piece of cardboard that is The same size of a 4 x 6 printed picture and the picture is laying freely on top of the cardboard. When you rotate the picture a few degrees to the left you will see the White piece of cardboard , Right? Lets say the white piece of cardboard is the Photoshop background and the picture thta we rotated is the picture I want to rotate in PS. Same thing its just I don't know how to just rotate the pic without seeing the white background.

Did that make sense?

Of course the white area will appear when you rotate the picture just as you explained with the cardboard example. That can not be avoided as the photo has a rectangular shape so you need to crop the picture after rotating excluding the white borders.

After you rotate, you have to recrop the image, which needs to be done to the Learjet 35 shot anyways. There's about twice as much space on the right side of the wing as the left. Also, as Viv said earlier, the plane needs to be lower in the frame.
Hope this helps, and I hope you can rework the shot and get it on. It's a nice shot of a really cool plane!

Your'e welcome!

Still the quality is not up to the standard. It now looks compressed or oversharpened - make sure to save at highest quality level (12). The quality of the image as its shown in the main post is much better.

I could give it a try if you wish, just send a pm.

Thanks Philip

Much better than previous version, but now it looks a bit oversharpened to me. I suggest to rub out the jaggies on the windows, stabilizer, and the wings.

Matt,
I can still see some jaggies around cockpit window and passenger windows. Also, look carefully at the leading edge of the tail. Those edges look pretty good in the original version. Looks like you have to be very careful with the amount of sharpening you apply.

Now, I'm a newbie here myself and I don't have any photos accepted to the database yet, but I'm working hard on that and trying to learn myself. It's up to you to consider my advice or not. Anyways, good luck!  Smile

Its Okay Oleg, I don't have any pics in the db either, so any advice is good advice.

Okay PS is acting up on me so I couldn't re edit the Learjet pic. Every time I tried to apply an Unsharp Mask it would say " Could not complete your request because of a progam error" So I had a chance to edit the new pic before it said that so waddya think? Too Noisy?

Sorry to hear that about your PS. I'm not sure what can be done about that, may be reinstall it?

Concerning the new picture: it seems a bit flat. I would try to add some saturation. It also looks like you were sharpening edges. I don't think it's necessary to sharpen those. I was working on a different 732 picture just now, and I was very selective about what I sharpened there. I basically used the magic wand tool and selected just the aircraft, so I would not sharpen anything but the aircraft. You might want to try that too. Good luck!

Oleg.
