Possible That The Fence Can Play A Part In A Shot?

Sat Mar 18, 2006 4:54 pm

I have this shot I took while I was putzing around ABQ, obviously it's not an upload (quality issues) but I'm curious to know what people's opinions are on those pesky fence things (shut up if you're from Amsterdam  Wink ). Anyway, here's the shot:

In my humble opinion, the fence doesn't detract from the subject, rather adds to it by putting it into perspective. When I look at the photo, my eyes immediately hit the fuselage of the aircraft, the fence, as small as it is, doesn't cover the fuselage.

My point that I'm trying to make (though from lack of sleep and it being 1am here I'm finding it difficult to make) is that fences can, even when covering parts of the aircraft, still be important to a photo.

What say the general public then? I'd like to if nothing else hear some opinions and start some interesting discussion on the matter.
And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

Eric if this aircraft is in its final resting place as a graveyard the fence would add a little bit more to the photo.
In my opinion and like you pointed out that the fence doesn't take away from the photo as my eyes also where drawn to the aircraft when i opened the image.
An interesting concept .

Eric,

Even though I'm from AMS, I have to say this is badmotive.

Nice try explaining, but I think the fence is a distraction no matter what.

As far as I know from experience, a fence can be acceptable but only if it doesn't block (even slightly, like here) the view on the plane. I've been lucky recently with two pics showing a fence, but rather low in the frame and not blocking the plane at all. No hope for this one unfortunately, I'm afraid...

AS a AMS local, I have to agree with tim  Wink.

Eric -

Except for the FedEx paint, that photo reminds me of that seriously wounded DHL A300 rolling off the runway in Baghdad. Have you seen those?!

The fence played a role in that shot as well. rotfl

Actually, the first thing I looked at was the fence, maybe because it's the subject of this thread?

First thing I noticed was the grain. But the fence kills it also.  Smile
