Any Hope For This Cockpit Shot?

Sun Mar 19, 2006 9:39 pm

Hi all... This one was just rejected for quality, motive and angle. I guess that means "the end" in terms of airliners.net. Nevertheless, I'd like to understand better, because I hope to be on the same plane/same flight in the future again, and perhaps I can get something similar accepted later on.

Here's the pic:
http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...60319_20060309-AXA-from-PJ-BIW.jpg

Angle: I think there are numerous shots with the horizon level rather than the cockpit level. I levelled the picture using the horizontal line on the runway and also looking at the horizon in the top left corner.

Motive - is it the fact that the interior and the pilots' silhouettes are so blurry?

Quality - I assume is related to the same blurry silhouettes, or am I missing something on the outside?

I thought I had better chances for an airport (Anguilla) that only has one picture in the db so far, but like I said, I may have another chance in the near future. Unless I can rework this?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

About the angle, I am sorry to say the picture does not look level, I tried 0,8 CCW and IMO it looks better.

On motiv, there is not much aircraft in the shot.

Thanks Javier, I will try the CCW rotating later on...

Viv, I realise that there isn't much aircraft in the shot, but there are so many "runways on final" in the db without showing the plane from which it was photographed, or any other planes for that matter. Would that be the reason for motive rejection?

I'd still be interested to get more info ont the motive and quality part of this reject.

Thanks

That is true but you must look at when those pics were accepted. Rules have changed alot just in the first few months of this year. I think its a great shot, but just don't think that the screeners will feel the same way I have to say. To me there isn't anything there that catches my eye. Its just a runway. Personally, with the approach angle (if it is an approach?), I'd like to see the instruments on a shot like that!

The dark outline of the pilots, to me, gets in the way of the shot.

But thats just my opinion!

Thanks Martin, that makes a lot of sense. It's my first attempt at a shot like this. Next time I'd try to be on the first row rather than shooting from the back of the plane... To me, the darkness added to show how narrow this plane is, but I could see people might have a different opinion.

Now if someone could just point the quality issues (if anything different from the fact that the dark blurry silhouettes are... well, dark blurry silhouettes), then I have a complete view on this rejection...

Basically go half way up the runway and the whole shot just seems to be a bit soft from there up on either side of the runway, if you follow what I'm getting at!!

Could be the curve of the window that caused it. But don't get me wrong, I like what you are trying to achieve here. Keep working at it.

I have the luxury of going back there... Will try to get a new shot, that's easier! Thanks anyway...
