Aviation Photography In Turkey?

Mon Mar 20, 2006 7:51 pm

Hi All,

Next Sunday I'm flying to Turkey (Istanbul & Antalya) to see the total eclipse of the sun on March 29th. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice about the legality of aviation photography in Turkey. I'd hate to get in trouble like those British spotters in Greece and would like to avoid Turkish prisons. Last time I passed through Ataturk Int'l I was awed by the fantastic and unusual aircraft on the tarmac but I didn't dare take any photos. If anyone has been to the airport in Antalya (whether spotting or simply transiting the airport), I'd be happy to hear about it. Also - if anyone has any experience with taking photos during an eclipse, I'd love to hear your tips.

Regards,

Edward

I had no problems photographing aircraft from airside in IST.
IST is a military-civil airport so not sure what kind of conditions await outside the terminal area.
