Rejected. Not Rare Enough?

Tue Apr 04, 2006 12:09 pm

On a recent swing by DTW on a dreary day, I snagged this shot:

http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...404_KDTW_032506_N664AW_DSC1042.jpg

I know it's not the greatest shot of any old 320 due to the lighting, but I edited it and uploaded anyway because it has US Airways' new colors, but an America West engine cowling. I'd never seen a mismatch before, and figured it to be somewhat rare. To me, it has a little bit of a storytelling element with the merger.

Is this not rare enough for a.net? Should I consider an appeal?

Thanks!

Saw this guy in SLC a few weeks back.

http://myaviation.net/search/photo_search.php?id=00597644

It now has a matching cowling (according to photos in the db) which leads me to believe that it is a rare photo (and does tell a cool story!), so if I were you I'd try an appeal, even though it's not great quality.

Does a rejection-appeal-rejection count twice against your acceptance ratio?

(Kinda sucks that I'd have to consider that in my calculus of appeal/don't appeal. It would be like a suspect being convicted at trial and sentenced for 10 years with the note that if he appeals and loses, the sentence goes to 20 years.)

Yes it does .
For the simple reason if it didn't people will appeal every rejection they get.
I would personally take the chance and put the comment for the screener about the cowling.

Upon appeal, it was rejected again, with no comment.

*sigh*

Are you sure about that? Is this policy stated anywhere? I was not able to find anything in the FAQ or the appeal page regarding a rejected appeal double-counting.

cheers,

My acceptance rate dropped when the appeal was rejected.

Shouldn't it? I'd like to get to a point where I can upload more than 5 at a time.

But in any event, I was just answering his comment, confirming that a rejected appeal counts again against your acceptance ratio.

Ian to me it doesn't bother me as such but as we have it now its like a challenge more or less so we strive to get our acceptance as high as possibler.
Cheers

Damon i love this shot and think it has a lot of potential.
A better edit will sure give it a chance.
Screeners are very quiet in the forums lately.
I know they are busy screening shots and good on them.

It's not that rare, it happens often enough. You'll get mismatched cowlings, nosecones, winglets, doors and other bodily parts.

I'm not a very experienced photographer but I would say that actually the new version is no better - you've increased the brightness too far and as a result you've got some serious noise issues in the darker areas e.g. bottom of the fuse and engines.

To be honest I don't think this shot will make it in, mainly on account of it being so backlit. Shame though...

I think it is unfair (and not to mention overly bureaucratic) to be double-penalized when an appeal is rejected. Especially since this fact is not mentioned in the FAQ or on the appeal page. What is mentioned, however, is that overuse of the appeal page will result in it being closed. This, in addition to the threat of getting banned, should serve as enough of a deterrent.
