Oversharpened, Struggling With New Monitor

Tue Apr 04, 2006 5:11 pm

Hi,

I just put three pictures in the queue. I processed them using my new TFT screen and they look good on that screen.

However, when switching back to my old monitor they look a bit jagged and oversharpened. Can you give me some feedback so I can, if necessary, rework and re-upload.

Thanks,

Roel.

The first two look fine to me.

On the third shot (which is a beautiful shot) I see very slight jaggies on the trailing edge of the inboard flap.

I would have cropped a bit larger to include the wheels ...

Hi Diezel,

I'm on my works monitor, a 15" Dell TFT. They look a little oversharpened on here. The JAL is my favourite though not sure if cropping out the gear will work in your favour. Also looks a tad dark, but that is most likely down to my monitor here. What monitor and resolution are you running?

Hi Roel,

I share the same feeling... however, I would also try (on the third one - which is my favorite) to crop the wheels out (they seem to be blurred anyway because of the hot exhaust gasses...

Good luck and I hope to see them soon when added to the database!

Best regards,

Walter

Hi Roel,

On my new 19 inches flat screen, the three photos are looking good.

Hi Roel,

I could see a little bit jaggies in the first shot. The second one and the third one look good.

And I think the LCD monitor may generate slight sharper image than CRT monitor. So it's a bit easier to find jaggies on LCD monitor.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys!

I did some more experimenting today and found out the following:

The higher the resolution, the less jaggies seem to appear. The pictures looked best on those small high-res laptop lcd screens and high-end LCD 1600x1200 screens. The only thing I can think of is that the distance between the pixels cause the difference.

Roel.

First shot may need some attention. Looks a tad oversharpened.

Second on seems fine to me.

Third one is just awesome. I checked the histogram on that one. It looks a bit underexposed here on my screen. Levels are all ok but still seems a tad dark. May should ok but a super shot and the best out of the three.
