Trip To SAN / LAX July 6-15th

Fri Apr 07, 2006 2:58 am

Well my wife and I are cashing in a few miles and flying F-class from ATL to SAN. I was able to talk my her into letting me do a couple of days up at LAX for photography. I know the smog of LA during summer makes for some not-so-pretty shots. But I so rarely get to the west coast now days.

I'll be driving up and would love to meet up with some of the regulars that shoot at LAX. I know it's a little ways off but it would be pretty cool if anyone wants to.

Just let me know if anyone is interested !!

Thanks,

It is not so much the smog, but more the marine layer that will be a killer in the Summer time. Be prepared for low ceilings, fog, and mist. It is really crappy to shoot in the summer actually. I don't want to turn you off completely, there can be very clear days in Summer, but the chances of a marine layer are very good at that time of year.

That said, I shoot at LAX a lot, and might run into you there. For SAN, look up Matt Lyons. He's a great guy, and I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you where to shoot. Keep us posted on dates, if you need any LAX spotting tips let me know.

The other problem at SAN during the summer is the sun. In the morning it is south of the field, but mid day crosses over and then in the afternoon it'll be on the north side. During the winter, it stays south all day.

The main spot at SAN is a small parking lot observation area at the corner of Laurel and Harbor Dr.
