Help On Colour Rejection Please!

Sun May 07, 2006 7:46 am

Hi guys

Just got this rejected for colour by the final screener:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...ections/big/20060507_DSCF4654d.jpg

It was previously rejected only for contrast, here:

Could anyone give me some pointers on how to get the colour right? I've been forced to work on my laptop as of late and so it's harder to spot colour issues. I have to say though I'm slightly frustrated that this issue was not brought to light last time; would have saved some time and hassle for not only me but the screeners too!

Cheers

It is frustrating when an image is rejected for one thing, resubmitted and then rejected for another.
However, I feel that the colour rejection is valid.
The secret of getting the colour right is to get the greys perfectly neutral and that takes practice. To get it right I put 14 units of red and blue in in the midtones in Photoshop Cs. that is quite a lot of cast to correct !
I seem to recall that a new screener is a printer. You can bet your bottom dollar that he will have the eye to pick up the slightest of casts.

There seems to be a greenish hue to the photo, if you get rid of that I think your on to a winner, nice photo!

Dendrobatid your quite correct one of the new screeners is a printer and has a very good eye at this.  wink

Thanks very much Mick & Globalpics - I'll have another go at it when I've got some time  Smile I managed to have a quick look at it on a better monitor and I can see the problem now.

While we're on the subject I'd really appreciate some informed opinions on this shot, obviously from a colour perspective but also to raise any other potential issues with it...

Well, as I have never seen one of those in person, I think the color looks good. I like the image as it is. The sky is blue, the grass is green. Did you do anything to 'juice' the colors?

The image is a bit 'hot', and boders on an over exposure, but it looks a lot better then many of the underexposed shots we see here that are just corrected after the fact using levels and curves.

Nice job.

Now, here's first, me disagreeing with JeffM !
The colour is out, whilst the sky is blue, it is a greeny blue. With my correction it looks like........

Quite easy in curves if you know how to do it.

As for the picture, definitely a green color cast, both by just visually looking at it and measuring the white values on the body.

O.k. I do think that looks a bit better. I guess the orange is not quite so bright in person? Like I said, I've never seen one.

Right well I'm hoping this one will get through finally!

Here's the latest version - followed Mick's advice and it looks about the same as his edit  Smile

The colors on this one look a lot more natural. Good luck.
