Mon May 22, 2006 9:53 am

Probably too much dead space on top for a.net, although it is a nice photo.

Hi Harry,

There isnt anymore dead space than any of my other shots like this... I thought the motiv might have been because of the EA6B in the lower right corner has the wing cut off a bit, but I was told my Tamsin a while back that info should be listed for the closest aircraft. Hmmm..

Thanks for the compliment.  Wink

Chad,

Brilliant shot, I don't understand the rejection here. Did you tick night shot? May sound dumb but just checking!

I don't think the EA6B is the prob, but if it is that's a pretty lame thing to reject it over. I don't think that the dead space is the issue here.

Let us know how it goes.

....back when there wasn't any F/A-18s.... Wink Doesn't it get kind of boring with them everywhere? I mean other then the Double-Ugly, E-2, and CODs, what else do you see?

As to the motive? I would bet it is too much sky, not enough flight deck. But I like it as it is. Nice shot.

I took a peak at your other shots, and it appears in all of the carrier shots, there is "something" in the sky, be it a sunset or moon or something else.

But of course it was accepted a year and a half ago, and we know how standards change.

I just think it is a borderline case, and the screener just decided there was too much dead space for a.net.

Chad,
I think Jeff has it right.
The horizon splitting the image in two divides the interest too much I think. The sky is unspectacular and moving the horizon up to the top (compositional) third would have shown a bit more of the flight deck and made for a far stronger image. I am sure it would have both been accepted and heading for your usual high hits.
An appeal ?
I think not on this occasion.
All the best

It’s ok, I am fully satisfied with the rejection. If I could do anything differently, it would have been to take a tripod with me. It would have allowed me to point in different directions… However, it is a safety hazard having something like that in the walk path at night and I don’t know how stable it would have really been due to the wind. Handholding the camera as it rested on the “wall” in front of me worked great, other than the fact that I was limited in what direction I pointed the camera.
